Thanks. I haven’t seen a new edition of the NIV but I’ll keep an eye out for it. If it does render elohim as “Gods” when referring to the God of Israel it will be highly publicized and heavily criticized by Hebrew linguists and by monotheists. It would be scandalous, and that is putting it mildly.

YHWH is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel; not the Gods of Abraham, Isaac and Israel.
The NIV is a new edition of the bible. As with most ...if not all?...new since the 1960's.
Their reference and usage was like this.......the use was for all gods...!!!...indirect reference insinuating more than one god.
Typical of how the new age religion movement goes about creating change in God;s word.

The NIV doesn’t translate the elohim of Israel as the Gods of Israel.

This is easily confirmed by consulting any verse of your choosing.

...and your point is?

My point is that you used words that express modalism and then denied that you are speaking about modalism. When I then asked what you are speaking about you replied that the words speak for themselves.

Yahweh, the God of the Bible, is a God of genocide, not of love and mercy.
Well. God saw the end of time before the beginning started. There were reasons for the slaughter. I dont think it would phase you to know the reasons, so i wont bother. And if God doesnt exist in your view as an atheist, then He didnt perform genocide :IDK:

Im sorry you hold this view point (that He is a God of genocide and not of love and mercy.) .....Even tho you dont believe in Him.

You look very young for 75 btw

But that’s far from the whole story. The Book of Joshua describes the conquest of the lands promised to the Israelites. Chapter 12 lists 31 kingdoms that were conquered under the leadership of Joshua. But those kingdoms weren’t just conquered. Every one of the kings of those kingdoms was killed. And not only that, but every one of the cities and towns over which those kings ruled was destroyed. And not only that, but all of the men, women, and children who lived in those cities and towns were killed:

I never found most Atheist arguments to be very compelling, such as their complaint about genocide in the Bible.

1) The killing wasn't because they were pagan, but because they practiced wickedness (even if there's a verse that may not relate this). Second, in spite of the language in the Bible (which may not translate so well), not everyone was killed.

2) The people objecting to genocide in the Bible often show they're not really concerned about genocide, such as when they promote the mass murder of babies or the soft genocide against the native European peoples, regardless of innocence.

3) Why object to God slaughtering a wicked people when that doesn't add a single death to the total deathrate? Given God, all our lives are his to take. And, take them all he does.

All is said is that the NIV doesn’t translate the elohim of Israel as the Gods of Israel, which anyone who reads the NIV can clearly see for themselves.
Again (last)...look at your writing...why plural also?......"gods of Israel"...suggesting that there are ...gods of the world...gods of Israel, et al.
There is only ONE GOD.

There is only ONE GOD.

The judges (plural) of Israel, a group, are called elohim (plural in form, plural in meaning) not because they are deities or the deity but because they function as agents of the one elohim (plural in form, singular in meaning) of Israel. They (plural) are standing in his (singular) place, ruling his people.

That is why someone like Moses, one person, can be called elohim (plural in form, singular in meaning).

That is why Jesus is called elohim (plural in form, singular in meaning).

Yahweh is the one God (singular) of Moses. Yahweh is the one God (singular) of Jesus. Yahweh is the one God (singular) of Israel.

There is, as you say, only ONE GOD. The other elohim aren’t him.

Elohim (plural in form, plural in meaning) is not the one God of Israel. No further information is required.

Elohim (plural in form, singular in meaning) may or may not be the one God of Israel. More information is required.

God himself actively participated in this slaughter:

As was His right to... seeing these people were nephilim (cross between humans and demons)... they are un-authorized to be here and as such the Lord has the right to take them out especially since they are adversaries to God';s people and if not slaughtered they would have slaughtered God's people.

Since the Lord was in covenant with Israel, it's self defense for the Lord to take these devil people out.

An omniscient God would have known that this problem would arise

And there was have it folks.... the accusation that the Lord is in error and made mistakes.

This is the view point of satan who seeks to accuse the Lord of wrong doing before people in his efforts to get people to reject the Lord.

God created earth for man to live in and said let man have dominion... so problems that arise are caused by man and since God created man in His own Image, He must allow man to choose which way he wants to go

And allow man to decide if he is going to sow to the flesh (rebel against the Lord) or sow to the spirit (walk in agreement with the Lord)

There is only one possible conclusion: Yahweh, the God of the Bible, is a God of genocide, not of love and mercy.

This is what satan keeps telling his children crazy.gif

Which arguments of atheism do you find compelling?
The most compelling Atheist argument destroys faith, is objective verification, akin to the sun rising each day.

In short, believers in God reduce to subjective witnesses. Moe, Larry, Curly and Shemp claim X.

We all can objectively verify the sun rises daily. God is supposed to all powerful. If this is true, objective verification should be infinitely more obvious the the sun in the sky.

“I don’t respect people who don’t proselytize. I don’t respect that at all. If you believe that there’s a heaven and hell, and people could be going to hell, or not getting eternal life, or whatever, and you think that, uh, well it’s not really worth telling them this because it would make it socially awkward - and atheists who think that people shouldn’t proselytize, just leave me alone, keep your religion to yourself - uh, how much do you have to hate somebody to not proselytize them? How much do you have to hate somebody to believe that everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?” - Penn Jillette, atheist

Jesus of Nazareth has the words of eternal life, the life of the age to come.

Jesus of Nazareth has the words of eternal life, the life of the age to come.
it is written thou shall not HATE your neighbor in your heart you shall in any way rebuke them and not allow sin upon them .
IT is hate to leave one in darkness . To silence the lips that speak truth is hate .
Yet todays mindset is dont judge , dont correct etc .
Have you noticed that when it comes to celebrating sins its allowed and even welcomed
But if anyone dares to speak truth , IT is called FORCING ones beliefs upon one .
If speaking truth is FORCING , then JESUS SURE FORCED a lot . As did the apostles .
FORCING one is convert or prepare to die or suffer . That we DO NOT DO .
But speaking truth , THAT IS A MUST DO .

Anyone who does not believe in Yahweh is a sinner, right?
What if the person does not believe in Yahweh but is merciful, helps people, never harms or hurts people. Is he still a sinner?
