The odd wording, "Please treat this as purely hypothetical..." is trying to thinly veil the attempt to appear hypothetical rather than come out and say, "here is my dilemma." This was my take from the beginning and I wrote my answer not as a hypothetical answer but as a REAL answer to a REAL question asked by the REAL original poster.
