    Jesus!

Faust is the main character in a German fable. He had a conversation with Satan, something like with Jesus and Daniel Webster, but he sold his soul for a life of material wealth and erotic pleasures. He is the main character in literary works by Christopher Marlowe and Johann Wolfgang von...

    Jesus!

I think maybe you intend to be helpful, but so far I have not understood anything you have written.

    Jesus!

And Faust didn't have his say either? Just as a matter of grammar, it should be are "part Jewish and part Gentile." If I ask a Samaritan, will he agree with that?

    Jesus!

I want to thank the folks who had tried to help with this subject. So far as near as I can tell, Jesus was born (Luke 2). Then Joseph and Mary consummated their marriage. (Matthew 1). That seems like an odd detail to include. For a while, he lived in Egypt until after Herod's death...

    Jesus!

Earlier in this thread, we had some discussion about missing verses in modern Bible translations. For example, 1 john 5:7-8 in the NIV has fewer words (or you might say "two phrases missing") compared to the KJV. A similar situation exists with John 8:1-11. Early manuscripts do not have these...

    Jesus!

Well, I think you have it right about the first point. Witnesses often disagree on the details. In thirty-five years in industry and another two decades as a public school employee, when I collected information about an incident, witnesses usually differed on the details. I understand that...

    Jesus!

Well, that's interesting. I have a sense that others here will agree with you.

    Jesus!

For 1 John 5:7-8 the KJV differs from the NIV just like you said. The NIV has a footnote which I do not understand, but I'm guessing that they mean to say that the manuscripts available to the King James translators differ from the older manuscripts that have become available in the last 200...

    Jesus!

Yes, that's what the folks here have told me. Will you give me an example of a "watered down" translation?

    Jesus!

So do you mean that Jews did not wash cups and kettles unless contaminated by a Gentile?
  11. Oddawll2

    Jesus!

Okay, I could do that. But first, tell me ... Where can I find an ancient manuscript of the New Testament written in anything other than Greek? I realize that I'm new at this, so maybe ancient Hebrew or Aramaic manuscripts exist, but in Sunday school lessons and at least one CSpan video, I'm...

    A Short "Mllinninal" Primer

If I don't misremember, I first heard the terms, end times, tribulation, second coming, etc, in 1968. In that year, Americans received daily doses of violence in terms of body counts in Vietnam, riots and arson in American cities, and assassinations such as Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther...

    Jesus!

Interesting bit of history ... Mark 7:4 says that when Jews "come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles." .... Which make me wonder if this implies that other people did not wash.

    Jesus!

    Okay, I check it out.

    Jesus!

I don't recall ever hearing the word, perverted, to describe scripture; but scholars use the word, corrupted, which is probably the reason that translations have so many footnotes. The Geneva Bible may hold the record for most footnotes. Since different manuscripts differ on which word to use...

    Jesus!

Actually, I didn't mean to imply that Jesus expressed indignation at the leper. It must have been more indignation about lepers in general. He must have known that eventually somebody would find an antibiotic, which could cure all lepers.

    Jesus!

In Mark 2:1-12, Matthew 9:1-8, and Luke 5:17-26 may describe the same event. Jesus heals a paralyzed man. Pharisees, who witness the event, accuse him a blasphemy. One might wonder the Pharisees major interest in the matter grew out of a concern about blasphemy, or maybe their real concern...

    Jesus!

In Mark 1:40-1:45, Matthew 8:1-8:4, and Luke 5:12-5:15, Jesus heals a man with leprosy. They sound like they may describe the same event. In Mark's version, the leper's request annoys Jesus. [Oye ve, so many lepers. So little time.] Or not, a footnote in the text says that instead of being...

    Jesus!

Yes, I sort of misremembered that.

    Jesus!

As of right now, I'd say I've become a bit crockers, but maybe I'll suss it out. Sounds like good advice.
