Which translation do you think is the best English translation?

tigger, In a Greek sentence, how do you know which is the nominative subject and the predicate nominative? We need to remember that a general principle is that word order does not affect translation. Declensions and conjugations of words determine the translation. Oz

Which translation do you think is the best English translation?

Robert, John 1:1 (NWT) is a classic example of where the NWT is a false translation of Scripture. Oz

Which translation do you think is the best English translation?

John, So, in a clause or sentence with the verb to be, if one discards the Colwell Rule, how does one decide which is the subject and which is the predicate nominative in the sentence? P.S. I'm a retired NT Greek teacher. Oz

Which translation do you think is the best English translation?

That is not an affirmation teaching that Jesus was a god. Oz

Which translation do you think is the best English translation?

Aunty Jane, The New World Translation of John 1:1 (NWT) is a profound example of how the NWT got it wrong: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god." "A god" violates a fundamental of Greek grammar: The Jehovah’s Witnesses argue that the correct...

Which translation do you think is the best English translation?

Robert, That's a very biased JW translation that reads JW false doctrine into the text. If you want easy-to-read versions in simplified language, I suggest The New Living Translation and The Easy-to-Read Version. This latter version was originally translated for the deaf, so the language was...

Thoughts about using a KJV update?

Josho, The NKJV is still based on Erasmus's Textus Receptus of 1516. Oz

Thoughts about using a KJV update?

BH, Closer to the autographa is a good argument as it gives less opportunity for errors to creep into the MSS. I do not blindly follow scholarship. Could it be you are ignoring the evidence from the Alexandrian texts being earlier and more reliable? Trusting Erasmus and the Textus Receptus of...

Thoughts about using a KJV update?

BH, You have not given reasons why the earliest MSS, based on Alexandrian texts, are closest to those of the original writings and thus there was less time to copy, to accumulate variants. The Textus Receptus (TR by Erasmus) - basis for KJV NT - was compiled centuries later in 1516, thus...

Thoughts about using a KJV update?

So what makes the Alexandrian text and the Masorectic text corrupted to the point where you don't consider they are worthy for biblical translations? Oz

Do Men Have Authority Over Women?

M-I, It's an oxymoron for women to be commanded to "keep silence in the churches" (1 Cor 14:34) and yet in 1 Cor 14:39 (NIV) they are taught: "Therefore, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues." Men and women could prophesy and speak in tongues...

Do Men Have Authority Over Women?

Do Men Have Authority Over Women?

reformed, Paul does not prohibit women in ministry in 1 Cor 14:26: "What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up"...

Do Men Have Authority Over Women?

Exactly what it says: "Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy." NT ministry is for both men and women. Oz

Do Men Have Authority Over Women?

Reformed, I follow Scripture and it says that: On the Day of Pentecost, “‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will...

"Salvation" is the gift of Eternal Life - it's FOREVER.

I was afraid this might be your understanding when it is is incorrect. THAT is a neuter demonstrative and must agree with its noun antecedents in gender, number and case. "Grace" is feminine so THAT can't refer to this noun. "Faith" is feminine so THAT can't refer to this noun. Oz

"Salvation" is the gift of Eternal Life - it's FOREVER.

Scott, I find the better biblical language is perseverance of the saints (Ephesians 1:13-14 ESV). This is especially so in light of Heb 6:4-6 (ESV). Doing exegesis is radically different from using dictionaries. Will Ravi Zacharias be saved eternally? Did you get that meaning from a...
