Hi there,
So you would have to have been deaf to the world, not to have heard the phrase "we are saved by Grace, not of works" among Christian circles. However, I want to challenge that. For a long time, I have believed that "a mature Christian, makes work a priority", which is not to say that we are saved by works, but that works are important to faith. But recently I hit upon a truth that is even more profound.
What I discovered was the truth that "to enjoy Grace in Heaven, you have to love the work"; this is not to save that "the love of the work, will replace Grace" - which is the whole point: it is something you do on top of enjoying Grace. You don't even have to love your own work, though naturally of course you will - whether you love the work, here or there, now or later.
That really is what the White Throne Judgement is all about; the White Throne Judgment is about your response to God's Grace (through Jesus Christ). No one is suggesting that if your response is good enough, you can ignore the Grace that was given you; what you can do if your response is good enough, is encourage other believers. Not that you encourage them on your own, and are not encouraged yourself! But that you are encouraged together with everyone else who loves the work.
The whole point is, that love grows stronger, when you love your work - you feel inspired, full of purpose, able to trust (especially God). The work you do is dynamic, if you love it. If you love God as you work, God loves you from within you through the work. There are a world of possibilities at this point, how you work, what you work for, what you favour as you work. God will answer the prayer of a working Christian, at some point. That is a guarantee.
I hope this has been of some encouragement.
God bless.
