hmm... so back to my question, would Jonah be going to Heaven or Hell and why? Thank you!
Post #20. all the Old Testament prophets had the Holy Spirit in order to be a prophet. This means, like us, Christ saved us and sealed us with the same Holy Spirit. The Prophet Jeremiah spoke of this salvation. King David was also a prophet. When Samuel Annointed David King, the Holy Spirit came upon him and never departed. In David's Psalms He talks about the Holy Spirit. So Jonah also has his name in the book of life.

Really? You can get 'crossed out' of the book of life?
Do you think that it is possible that Jonah 'tried' not to disobey but really found he could not do it? Or what?
I think Jonah is ok. He'll be able to tell you his fish story in detail when you see him yonder tl_p

Yes I think that if Jonah couldn't get passed God showing mercy to his enemies and didn't show love and forgiveness then he would never have been written in the book of life? And he will be going to hell.
All of us are written in the book of life for Jesus sake. In him we have this gift.
Getting crossed out is the result of dogged rejection of what has been freely given us.

...and what does dogged rejection look like? One explanation is preferring ones own view to God's view. An example might be, get in the boat, there's a lot of rain coming but they laughed at Noah and suffered the consequences.

you mean all Christians are written in the book of life but then can be crossed out.

I mean all people. Yes, God has given life to all. It is a gift. It is news that is so good, it is gob smacking.
How can people be lost you might ask? It is a mystery why people should be lost. If there was a reason, there would be an excuse but there is no excuse. They have been wooed by the master deceiver, and had the treasure stolen from under their nose by believing his deceptions.

Romans 10:9 tells us, 'If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.'

if you were like Noah, where God told you to do something but you didn't obey, but you also didn't sin but you just didn't obey God's directions, would you still be going to Heaven???

Under the New Covenant we have opportunity to confess and forsake out sins and the Lord will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

So if you believe God told you to do something important for Him and you failed to do it... confess that as sin before the Lord and ask Him to forgive you so He can cleanse you.

Go to death row and the criminally insane area of a prison and say that. I've been there. They'll just as soon kill as look at you. Most take pleasure in killing.

What's your point RD?

I said - go to death row. They will not accept God's Grace; they are proud of their crimes. They belong to Satan. Their crimes are a badge of honor in prison, to be the worse of the worse is looked up to. God's gift of Salvation is for those who are chosen or accept it. Jesus does not pray the world, only for His own. John 17:9

yes that's what I thought. That God doesn't freely give salvation to all. They have to be saved and call on Jesus and repent, have a repentant heart and be a follower of Jesus.

We are all rebels and selfish creatures. There is none righteous, no not one. We are all in the same boat even while some think they are not.

The good news goes to all, including the worst of us....even those on death row. Life is a gift to them as it is to all people.
What they do with the gift, with the good news does not reflect on God. If they choose not to take it I guess they wont have it
Pretty uncomplicated!

hmm... so back to my question, would Jonah be going to Heaven or Hell and why? Thank you!
If God told Jonah to do something and he refused, even wishing for death, it reminds me of Balaam’s story. Balaam was invited to curse Israel but said, ‘I can only do what God tells me’ (Numbers 22:18)—a statement that was technically correct. Yet, Balaam still acted against God’s will, and it led to his death. Jonah clearly knew this story, which is why he preferred death over obeying God’s command. The consequences of such disobedience are severe.

God doesn’t appear in ordinary lives because when He speaks, you must obey.
The stakes are incredibly high.
Exodus 33:20
And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
. As the Old Testament shows, (Exodus 33:20). This is the reality.

Jonah knew that the consequence of refusing to obey God’s word was death. Yet, God demonstrated His mercy by resurrecting Jonah, allowing him to understand divine compassion and patience. In the end, Jonah chose to obey God’s command.

So God will use the right way to guide us not to hell.

Jonah was a Prophet, chosen, and had the Holy Spirit like all the prophets in the Old Testament. That means they also have salvation.
Does it?

Balaam was a prophet, but he gave the Moabites some very naughty advice.
