As I understand narcisistic personality disorder, the narc has low to non-existant self-esteem to the point of having no confidence in having their needs met (emotional or otherwise), unless they manipulate and control, forcing others to oblige towards what they need.
This is the going mantra in some psychology circles, but don't believer a word of it. They are trying to do the same for psychopaths, saying they are like autistics, but a Christian forensic psychologist in the US (sorry can't remember his name) denies it, and he has spent a long career in prison populations especially with psychopaths, and he says they are character defective rather, and use the pity card like this one for sympathy. It is pure evil.
It is only those with high self esteem that manipulate and control to the extent that they ruin other peoples lives as they feel entitled to do it.
I have been through horrific abuse and who has had unmet needs because I would never dare ask another person to help me.
