You seem to be shortchanging God on this. Has he lost his ability to reach humankind?

[
What does Jesus mean when He said many are called for? Jesus didn't say all are called, Jesus said many. I've talked with several individuals who said they had a feeling to go to church at one time, but the feeling went away, while I was evangelizing and talking to people. And, have talked to hundreds that felt the call and draw, and responded and that became part of their testimony.

Modern evangelism techniques I'm thinking of

--- Passing out tracts
--- Street Preaching
--- Saying "Jesus Loves You" to strangers
--- Going door to door
--- Being compelled to share the gospel to any and everyone at any time

Things my husband and I have found more impactful

--- Being sacrificially generous to family members as God leads
--- Being available to feed, give money, and give resources to homeless strangers in our path as God leads
--- Being quiet about faith sometimes so that our words don't get in the way of how our actions may be convicting to others
--- Leading by example
--- Giving a brief answer when others are naturally curious about why we did something a certain way. "I serve the Lord, so I do x"
--- Answering questions patiently, listening, and respectful dialogue when spiritual matters come up
--- Living quiet peaceable lives with good works rather than modern evangelism techniques, being available to stop and mentor on the spot if needed.
--- Hospitality: good food, welcoming and making room for others, space for others to ask questions about the faith, cry, or just feel important and loved for a while

My opinion is that the modern "tell all about Jesus or you are damning them to hell" style evangelism is often shallow, annoying, hell for introverts, and fails often to win people to Christ. Jesus told us to teach people to observe all that He commanded. But we often stop short at shallow "planting seeds". Most people in America have heard of Jesus and the gospel. But it's becoming rare to see people living lifestyles consistent with the Scriptures, which is where the magnetic aspect of the Christian life is.

I think the Orthodox Church's view of things is really helpful. They don't focus on winning souls with techniques but on producing good works of faith that naturally draw people's curiosity.
Totally agree with you sister, the modern way is just preaching at people, but the way you described is so much better as that is actually "living" the gospel and folks can see the gospel first hand.
Also, 1 Peter 3:15 "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:"
So if we are not asked plainly for the reason for our hope then we should just live it and that speaks volumes...IMHO.
Good thread Winnie!!

Modern evangelism techniques I'm thinking of

--- Passing out tracts

When i was 4 yrs old, i read a "Chick Tract"..
Called : "This was your Life"...
I never forgot it. ... and that gospel seed, is why im born again, as God took that Tract, and used it, inside me... later on.

1730467015334.png

Ive given away so so many Tracts and materials like that... over the years.

I use to get a certain, and now unattainable... Leather Bound "New Testament and Psalms" and i would take a pen, and literally create a concordance in the NT, so that anyone who had this bible, could find Salvation and basic "new Christian" theology, as i would pen it all in, and give them away.
In fact, people found about about this, on a Job i had, long ago, and would find me and request it.. .So, i would also have their name set in GOLD on the cover for them, also..
Ive done this so many times.........so many bibles.

Things my husband and I have found more impactful

--- Being sacrificially generous to family members as God leads

The Christian is the only JESUS an unbeliever is going to meet today.
To THEM, the born again, the CHRISTian, represents Jesus.
So, a helping hand, is always the best way to Show God's Love.

Like :
Change someone's flat tire.
Cut a neighbors Grass if they are poor, have no mower, or if they are OLD and cant do it.
Load an old woman's Groceries, for her, in the parking lot.

Little works of Kindness, open a heart to Christ.
Its a fact.

One of the best ways to bypass that initial "OMG< another Jesus Freak. here to tell me im going to Hell,".... situation, that you can encounter, is to talk to a stranger, be friendly, and find out what is wrong in their life.......as people are hurting and want to not hurt.......they want to know "what is the solution".
So, often, they will tell us, "Well, the reason i seem sad, is because my Teen is on Drugs".. "Well, i dont have a job and my rent is 2 months past due"... "well, my husband is violent, and im scared to leave" "well, im pregnant, and im scared, as i have no husband".

So, dont say.>>>"Well LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT MY JESUS" !!!!!!!!! "Look at this verse"...

no.
no.
no.

Say this...>>>>"well, can i pray with you".. "would you let me pray with you"..

"ummm, sure... thank you"..

"FAther, we know that you love us. And we know that you want to help us... and i ask that...........

See that?
This person you are praying for, will never forget it, and that SEED, will grow in their heart, and God will water it, with His Grace...
And it could be that God is the reason they found you that day, and now you can help them....somehow.
Do it.
..

My opinion is that the modern "tell all about Jesus or you are damning them to hell"

Certainly not always.. but sometimes, making Hell real to an unbeliever, is the only way to keep them from going there.

But never should we beat people with a bible........never.

God is LOVE, and we have the Truth, and the lost need both.

We have the ANSWER they are looking for... always.

Amen,, the light draws people to it. When we are a light, God uses this to draw people to us, so we can share the true light.

Amen, sister. This verse cones to mind as well.

John 12:32
[32]And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.

And....

Matthew 5:16
[16]Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

The biggest problem facing certainly my church is, do people know we are there!

So yes we have a street preaching team who regularly have conversations with people.
Saying jesus loves you to strangers! never done that, don't think it is effective.
Door to door and tracting. again in an area of some 10,000 houses we strugle to be seen. these methods seek to raise awareness. Does it work. Sometimes.

compelled to witness, really depends on yourself, can you, do you talk frequently about the church, gospel, bible readings etc etc etc

Each of us should be ready to give a " reason " for the hope/faith we have and should live a life worthy of our God.

Thank you for your post.

Clearly, you are actively engaged in spreading the gospel, but there might be a note of frustration in your voice (understandable).

The Apostle Paul never gave up on preaching in synagogues, despite the almost total lack of success. One sometimes wonders what God has in mind when it appears we are engaging in fruitless endeavors (enlighten me if you think you see the reason).

God be with you!
