She has stated to me.that her reason was for herself, a personal reason. That being said, she is strong in her identity and other people's opinions don't effect that. She has never stated any reason other than that. I think if she was trying to show it off, it might have been placed down on the forearm. But this is up where most sleeves cover. That's exactly why her father never noticed it until the wedding, as her gown sleeve came off her shoulder a bit. Still, only maybe 1/4 inch of it finally peeked out above her sleeve toward the end. You should realize that not every person thinks the same ...not every motive is the same.

Yes ...because she has a daughter who was stolen. I think that it is a way to show her daughter hopefully some day that she never forgot her and she was/is wanted. But it also is a reflection of the pain of losing a child, and the bravery it takes not to forget.....
It would be easy just to file it away and stuff those memories ...but I have one (or a few) very strong and brave daughter. But then, all my children are. ❤
@TLHKAJ Yes, I'm sure that your daughter had her exact motivations, which do differ from person to person, indeed.
And yes, wedding gowns are often - typically - off the shoulder so in such gowns existing ink might be more visible that isn't necessarily visible when other garments are worn. (This is probably why your husband hadn't noticed it before.)

@TLHKAJ I reckon this daughter's tattoo is in a sense really saying wordlessly: "I am here waiting for you".
A lot of profound feeling must have gone into her tattoo parlor visit for it.

I've never met someone with a Faith-tattoo, but I have a tattoo
It is a young lion which sits upon a rose.
Near my right shoulder.
It's faded now.
Must have been 30 years ago or so.
@Ziggy As an example, my wife and I talked to a young lady with the whole of John 3.16 tattooed on her wrist area; it was her favorite Bible verse and mine also and I'm sure other conversations have arisen as a result of her willingness to have it done. Sometimes tattoos in faith based designs are quite small, such as for example a Christian fish symbol <>< on a wrist or finger or behind an ear, etc.
As you will know, getting inked does offer a way of expressing oneself often rather meaningfully.
So did you intend your tattoo to express allegorical meaning, maybe?

I don't remember at the time if I was conscious of the image.
Something about a lion just stuck out in my mind.
Of course as the years went by it took on a meaning.

But that verse I posted above is about peace.
And I found peace in the cub playing with a rose.
@Ziggy Sounds like already 30 years ago you had a really deep-seated desire for such an inking to express this Scripture truth; like as if you were already so settled in this Scripture conviction that you felt it so strongly appropriate for it to have a skin permanence.
@Ziggy Oh I see! and so really your avatar photo with the cat (the lion being a member of the cat family) with the rose does indeed tie in with your longstanding ink as a tattooed woman (which you must find rather thrilling - a theme of peacefulness and invigorating all at the same time). Someone else on the forum, like you, also said his lion tattoo has Scriptural meaning.

I became a Born Again Christian when I was around 18.
I started going to church because by chance one day I picked up the Bible and started reading Revelation.
Dragons and Locusts and all kinds of scary stuff.
How did this ever get into a Holy Book?
I had to go and find out.
Well my first encounter was with the Southern Baptist Church
And I was introduced to hellfire and judgement from the very first day LOL
Maybe about 7-8 years later is when I got the tattoo.
So it probably did leave an impression.. :)

well, I have to confess at the time it really had nothing to do with faith.
How do I say this..
At the time, my marriage was getting rather dull, so we decided to go do something crazy.
Let's get tattoos!
He got a Black Panther the length of his left arm, and I got the Lion with the rose.
Needless to say, it didn't save my marriage.
But maybe it kept me aware of the direction I needed to follow.
I don't think about it these days.

@Ziggy Thanks for your poll participation. There are many views and feelings about tattoos, including faith based tattoo designs; some ppl feel really good about them, others feel really bad about them; I'm guessing that in your case it's the former.
