I'm showing you that it's inconsistent to be overwrought about something like that, and overlook Donald Trump's many, many outright lies. He said what they said he did; including more of the statement would only have clarified his rationalization for it. Trump repeatedly lies about what other people say and do.

Yes, part of it is likely due to his increasing confusion over things going on around him. The presidency has not been good for him; as his friend Howard Stern predicted, it has taken a toll on him. But sometimes, he clearly does know he's lying.

Examples on request.
Well if you want to have a double standard that is on you. Just shows your dishonesty.

Who said I had a double standard? What makes you think I always believe the President?

But in practice, what the public actually saw was a confused president.
...
Throughout the gathering, Trump clearly wanted to hear -- and be able to say -- that a COVID-19 vaccine was right around the corner. "I've heard very quick numbers, that of months," the Republican claimed, pointing to rumors he couldn't identify. "And I've heard pretty much a year would be an outside number. So I think that's not a bad range."

It fell to Dr. Antony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, to patiently try to explain the nature of the timeline.

"Let me make sure you get the ... information. A vaccine that you make and start testing in a year is not a vaccine that's deployable.... When is it going to be deployable? And that is going to be, at the earliest, a year to a year and a half, no matter how fast you go."
...
Trump, arms folded, asked pharmaceutical executives whether Fauci was correct. When they agreed, the president added, "Well, I think treatment in many ways might be more exciting." I'm not at all sure what that meant.

It was, at times, exasperating. The more Trump was told how long the entirety of the process -- development, testing, clinical trials, and deployment -- would realistically take, the more he tried to find someone to tell him what he wanted to hear.

"So you're talking over the next few months, you could have a vaccine?" the president asked one CEO, who explained that a possible vaccine could exist in a few months, but that it would still need several more months before it's ready for the public.

Trump nevertheless added that one executive was "talking about two months." It led HHS Secretary Alex Azar to again remind the president about the difference between bringing a vaccine to the public in two months and beginning a testing phase in two months.

This came a week after the president told the public that a vaccine is "very close," which also wasn't true, and which also faced pushback from administration officials.

Your ridiculous defense of them in this very thread.

I showed you that they have more integrity than Trump. That's not a very high bar to clear. "More honest than Trump" is like "safer than gargling battery acid."

You can't admit he lies constantly. Instead you justify what he does.

Today Trump said "I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic". Compare that with:

He's lying. But do any of his supporters care?

Why is he lying? First of all there was no need to go into panic mode. And secondly, the epidemic will abate shortly, just as flu abates after a season of flu. If he is telling people to keep calm, that is exactly what a President should be doing at this time!

However, what you failed to point out is that in the early stages of COVID-19, the evil Democrats were spending all their time and energy on trying to impeach Trump, WHEN THERE WERE NO IMPEACHABLE OFFENSES. Indeed McConnell could have thrown those bogus Articles of Impeachment in the trash, since they were actually trash. Instead he opened up the Senate to more Democratic nonsense for days and weeks, when the focus should have been on coronavirus and how to keep America safe (which is of no interest to treasonous Democrats).

So his supporters don't care for your lying, and the lying media, which cannot come up with a single truth under any circumstances. And they never apologize honestly for anything.

Trump has been calling for a border wall ever since he took office. And the lying Democrats and the Deep State have been resisting, resisting, resisting, day after day. The same goes for deportations of illegals, and the releasing of criminals and gangsters from prisons. Now all of a sudden Mexico wants to shut down its border with the USA. Imagine if there had been no resistance, since this was a national security issue.

Now everyone is shutting down their borders, even in Europe, even in Germany where Merkel has been insisting on open borders and migrant invasion while she destroys Germany. And the Greeks are now putting up concrete blocks and using other means to shut down mass illegal migration from Turkey, since Turkey has weaponized illegals for its own agenda. And the only reason Italy was affected so seriously is because of the Chinese population in Italy.

At the same time, Trump has not had proper advice about a proper wall, therefore what you see are pictures of an inadequate fence. Again, his advisers have been sabotaging his agenda. A proper solid wall (including a barrier to all tunnels), with all defensive and offensive equipment in place, could have prevented not only illegals, but all kinds of infectious diseases from coming North. Those caravans would have stopped had they seen a real wall in place.

Why is he lying?

Because he can't help it. I think he might actually believe that if he convinces enough people, reality will bend for him. His own people were contradicting him when he said all those lies. Would you like a list?

First of all there was no need to go into panic mode.

But after he realized that the pandemic wasn't going to go away, he did panic. As you probably know, travel bans don't work. And he exempted countries in which he had hotels and golf courses, even when they had higher rates of Covid-19 than some countries on his ban. Just panic.

And secondly, the epidemic will abate shortly,

That's what he said weeks ago. How did that work out?

If he is telling people to keep calm, that is exactly what a President should be doing at this time.

He should have been telling them what his epidemiology people were telling him. Instead he denied everything and lied about how serious it was.

Which caused more panic when people realized he was lying to them. Now the overwhelming majority of Americans don't trust anything he says:
Majority of Americans Don't Trust Donald Trump to Tell Truth About Coronavirus Threat
Majority of Americans don't trust Donald Trump to tell truth about coronavirus threat: Poll

(impeachment bunny trail removed)

(border wall bunny trail removed)

And it turns out that it was Mexico that should have feared about diseases from the U.S. Trump lied about that, too. He can't help himself.

You can't even admit one obvious deception on the part of the media...

You can't admit even one obvious deception by Trump. I get it. You don't want to trust news sources (which you should know, vary in reliability), but you want to trust Trump. (who you know is an unvarying liar)
