Interestingly, I was just reading about this a few minutes ago on my lunch break. I had thought about making a post.

Exodus 31

A couple of things ran through my mind as I read this. One is in verse 13:

13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.

They are to not work on the Sabbath as a way for them to know that God sanctifies them. I was reading in Romans 4 last night, about how justification must come by faith so that more than just Israel can be justified.

Do No Work . . . so it is clear that it is God Who sanctifies you.

The other is that God not only rested, but was refreshed!

There's nothing in this passage mentioning the Sabbath. The Sabbath isn't just simply about "regard", but not to "profane" what God has sanctified. Only God can sanctify anything or anyone.

This is where most people seem to lose track of reality as this can't be referring to any part of the Mosaic law. It can't be referring to the commandments as they were given by God himself. God does not place anyone into bondage. Ezekiel even points out that those who suggest that God places burdens on people, are themselves a burden to God.

Again, the assumption is that these are God's feast day, or that a false approach to the feast days negates or annuls the true purpose; it doesn't. This is the fallacy of the non sequitur.

This is probably the most popular passage to cite, and practically no one ever notices what it actually states. Note first that Paul is pointing out "no man" passes judgment on you in what you're eating or drinking, or "respect" of Sabbaths, feast days, etc. This word quite accurately translated as "respect" literally means "partaking; taking part; participation".

Note also that they "are" a shadow rather than "were" a shadow. The semicolon indicates that is it the body of Christ who is to judge one's actions. In the original manuscripts there is no "is". It was added by the translators. It doesn't belong. It should just say, "but the body of Christ (i.e. "the church")" it is the church who shall judge your "respect, regard, participation" in God's feast days, etc.

Note also the reason stated in your citation from Hebrews:

yet those to whom it was previously proclaimed did not enter BECAUSE OF DISOBEDIENCE.

He has already stated the reason for this disobedience in vs. 2 which was

the message they heard did them no good, since they did not join in with those who heard it in FAITH.

Note that Paul is distinguishing between those who heard it in faith with those who didn't join them.

7 So God again ordains a certain day, “Today,” speaking through David after so long a time, as in the words quoted before, “O, that today you would listen as he speaks! Just because others disobeyed doesn't negate or annul God's law or his promises.

God's rest is in holiness. We are to enter into THAT rest through Christ. So we honour the Sabbath of God. We cease from our own works to enter into Christ. We honour that level of walk...which is by grace through the faith OF Jesus Christ.

Entering into Christ's rest also means working because he works, and the father continues to work. Again, this doesn't negate the fact that God sanctifies one day, and he sanctified it by resting in it. Christ keeps the Sabbath. Paul keeps the Sabbath. James, John, and all the saints of God keep the Sabbath, not because they should or because it's the right thing to do, but because they're redeemed reborn children of the living God. That's what God's chosen people do. They don't love God because they keep his commandments. They keep God's commandments because they love God.

God's commandments are not arbitrary, or insignificant. There is no least commandment with God. Christ is using a figure of speech which points out that those who teach others to disobey God's commandments have no place in God's kingdom. When Jesus says "not one jot or title shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." He's pointing out that even the force or power of the decorative marks (Heb. "taagan") will not be done away before the world ends. One has to be "desperately wicked" to immediately begin finding arguments to do away with God's commandments when so many new testament authors reaffirm their legitimate and established role in the New Covenant. There are no new laws against keeping any of God's commandments.

Every day is important yes, but God didn't bless, sanctify, and make holy every day did He? And He didn't ask us to remember every day as you are trying to do. Only the day you want to forget.

The Seventh Day Baptists preceded the Seventh Day Adventists by about two centuries. They originated in the 17th century, while the SDA church originated in the 19th century as an offshoot of the Millerite Movement, (but under the influence of a Seventh Day Baptist woman).

However the Puritans in England believed that the first day of the week is the Christian Sabbath, and observed it as such. It is called the Lord's Day in Scripture (Rev 1:10), and Christians have observed the Lord's Day ever since. It happen to fall on the secular Sunday, therefore the SDA church called Sunday worship taking the Mark of the Beast and the papacy being the Antichrist (since the RCC observes Sunday along with other Christians)!. THIS IS A TOTAL FALLACY. I am quoting from an article on this subject (but most of the article is tiresome):

If you are one of those people who go to Church on Sunday, according to the majority of 7th day Adventists (official teachings) you are worshiping the Beast with his mark.

You can't consider the first day of the week to be the seventh day of the week any more than you can consider Sunday to be Saturday.

Another fallacy. What are the reasons for the sabbath, how was it practiced, and how did Christ change it? That is the key to understanding the Christian Sabbath.

The primary reason for the Jewish sabbath was rest from daily labor, and the Jews also used it as a day of worship (and still do). But Christ took it one step forward and also made it a day for good works (which shocked the Jews and incited their hatred). So if these objectives are moved to the first day of the week, with worship as the primary objective, then good works, and then rest, it totally fulfils what Christ expected on the Sabbath days. And that is the key issue.

Naturally the eighth day does not become the seventh day, but by the same token the first day of the week -- the day of resurrection as well as the day of Pentecost -- has tremendous significance for Christians, and that should be the real focus. Furthermore, the Sabbath was given to Israel under the Old Covenant, but under the New Covenant IT IS A SHADOW. The reality is Christ, our eternal Sabbath, since we rest in Him while He gives us rest.

Highlighting the 4th may be a good place to start, but it certainly doesn't end there. I think this is where most Christians who observe the 4th go wrong. But WHY "a Sabbath-rest-DAY"? Because it "FOR THE PEOPLE of GOD, "remains valid a DAY"!

And like all God's gifts of his grace the Sabbath-rest-Day gift of God's grace, is "for and valid for The PEOPLE of God", Christ's Church.
