The Minor Prophets are minor indeed in length, but not minor in value... :)Nope, can't say I have. My bible study group went through Micah recently, but I haven't been through Malachi...hmm, I can't remember how long!
Maybe it's true after all that whole chunks of the Bible are still unknown to some congregations...Your bringing up the book of malachi reminds of a story related by an evangelist.
He was invited to speak by a denomination he had never dealt with. The host introduced him and added that he would be speaking from the book of "Mala-chee". The only Italian book in the Bible he later quipped.
The scariest thing was that no one in the congregation laughed.
Bizarre...and how are local church leaders somehow content with that situation, when they are to feed the flock (Acts 20), if its members truly are a spiritual flock...?It seems strange that many church goers rarely open a Bible.
You got that right....I just had 2 people this week quote scripture as saying such and such and I would say that is not in the bible where did you hear that....pastors and friends. With all the different denominations today teaching false doctrine it is imperative that we know the Word in order to recognize false teaching. It seems strange that many church goers rarely open a Bible.
We should indeed be reading it daily; what comes over strongly as well in Malachi is the pilgrim character of the spiritual remnant: such a wholesome and challenging consideration. You got that right....I just had 2 people this week quote scripture as saying such and such and I would say that is not in the bible where did you hear that....pastors and friends. There is wisdom for us in the church, yes, indeed. My point was that dispensationally the subject of Malachi is not the church, which began at Pentecost. QUOTE]
Everything is related to Church (the body of Christians in a relationship with Jesus) because "all" scripture is beneficial - whether it is related to church (religious organisations and their pointy building using the same name church)... will be determined by their appointed religious rulers
I do see the church beginning at Pentecost, Acts 2.I think you missed my point... We know that Noah and Nellie like all the OT is not the church but all scripture is still beneficial for the Church, the brethren, the body, the whole world of born again in the spirit believers
Church the whole world of born again in the spirit believers
church a gathered congregation in the flesh in the pointy building with a mixture of non believers and born again in the spirit believers
some scriptures are related to both groups and some scriptures are related to one group
Church began in the upper room when the Holy Spirit fell upon those present and church began when those present later had fellowship with those not present
Many (if not most) churches are not doing their jobs. And even the evangelical and fundamental churches are failing to make Gospel truth and Bible truth their first priority. It seems strange that many church goers rarely open a Bible.
Paul exhorted Timothy: "Preach the word..." (2 Timothy 4.2).Many (if not most) churches are not doing their jobs. And even the evangelical and fundamental churches are failing to make Gospel truth and Bible truth their first priority.
It is significant that the first church mentioned in Scripture -- the church at Jerusalem -- had "the apostles' doctrine" as the first item on the list of things in which they were engaged steadfastly.
And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. (Acts 2:42)
As we cry 'Abba, Father', we will want to feed on the Word... :)Having never read the Bible at all when Jesus came for me I began to read vigorously. For years I spent a great deal of time reading and searching. I read differently now and of course with different purposes.
One benefit is I can remember portions of many scriptures, so that I can search out any scripture.
If the living word is first put in the Holy Spirit will recall the perfect scriptures at the time most needed! Truly living waters. Amen
