Like I said - this is a really tough question for Protestants because one of the main pillars of your belief system (Sola Scriptura) hangs in the balance. If the Catholic Church is right and those Books ARE Scripture - then you guys have been rejecting the Word of God for 5 centuries and Sola Scriptura goes right out the window . . .
And that's fine.I can't speak for protestants, but I don't think that they (Protestants) really care all that much about your questions or the Apochrypha. They're probably pretty much at peace over it.
Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.Priceless but true.
And that's fine.
Just don't say that you "accept" the Deuterocanonicals as Scripture when you keep referring to them as "Apocrypha".
MOST Protestants are honest about their rejection of these Books, unlike you . . .
No they're not. They're only called "Apocrypha" by anti-Catholics. who reject them as being inspired. The "Apocrypha" is what they are called. Its not me calling those books that name, its what almost all of Christians outside the Catholic Church calls it.
Speaking of the name, I wish I could say I don't understand why you are so upset with the term, but I do understand. Somehow you have taken the word to be an "anti-Catholic slur". Its not.
From what I have read Apocryphal books are of two types: 1. Your beloved dueterocanical books and 2. Noncanical books.
The definitions of the term are: 1. Of unknown or doubtful origin 2. Of doubtul sanction or uncanical 3. False. The word itself literally means "hidden".
These books which for your sake i will call the dueterocanical books weren't labeled false writings by anyone. If so, Luther wouldn't have included them as "useful" works. If so they would've been rejected by other bibles like the KJV. Yet I suspect this is the reason you are so offended as to label the term "Apocrypha" an anti catholic slur. I hope I'm wrong about that but it seems the only logical reason for your reaction.
So if that's not the reason, what is?
And once again... I am not the on who calls it Apocryha. That is what it is called by half the Christian world.
Thanks for that absolutely irrelevant verse that simply exposes your complete ignorance of Scripture . . .Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
well BoL, that day will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed (the son of destruction). If you really believe that is irrelevant, then you could always make a poll to see, or even use some other random method i guess. Or you could even show your math, that might be compelling. Who am i, to say you are wrong? Thanks for that absolutely irrelevant verse that simply exposes your complete ignorance of Scripture . . .
It was irrelevant to our conversation.well BoL, that day will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed (the son of destruction). If you really believe that is irrelevant, then you could always make a poll to see, or even use some other random method i guess. Or you could even show your math, that might be compelling. Who am i, to say you are wrong?
ah, you think this is a conversation, i forget. the methods were suggested as a path to honesty, if you like.It was irrelevant to our conversation.
Why don't you try being honest for a change?
A little advice:ah, you think this is a conversation, i forget. the methods were suggested as a path to honesty, if you like.
i guess both of your parents were pretty authoritarian, huh. both dead now?
Good heavens.... That's just some old fashioned catholic paranoia there...No they're not. They're only called "Apocrypha" by anti-Catholics. who reject them as being inspired.
They are called the "Deuterocanonical Books" by those who believe that they are inspired.
YOU keep referring to them as "Apocrypha" which means one of two things:
a. You reject their inspiration
b. You are simply ignorant of history.
I would rather believe in the latter - but I suspect the former is true.
Not at all.Good heavens.... That's just some old fashioned catholic paranoia there...
ya, i'm pretty sure they are inspired, but i never heard of any other term to refer to them, myself. And how many times can one say "deuterocanonical" anyway?Good heavens.... That's just some old fashioned catholic paranoia there...
and how does that make you feel, BoL?You don't understand what "apocrypha" or "apocryphal" mean
It doesn't make me feel anything.and how does that make you feel, BoL?
One says "Deuterocanonical" when one knows what they're talking about.ya, i'm pretty sure they are inspired, but i never heard of any other term to refer to them, myself. And how many times can one say "deuterocanonical" anyway?
well i guess "hidden" is also an acceptable definition, BoL.One says "Deuterocanonical" when one knows what they're talking about.
One refers to the Deuterocanonical Bools as "Apocrypha when they are either anti-Catholic - or don't have a clue as to what "Apocrypha" means . . .
Pay attention bbyrd.well i guess "hidden" is also an acceptable definition, BoL.
