from a AiG conference I went to in 2019.

The Lord had a plan of salvation from the beginning. The Gospel of Jesus was His plan A.

All of the Old Testament points to, and is about Jesus.

Humans became wicked again (like humans do) so The Lord destroyed humanity. He preserved Noah (who was blameless) and only his seven family members in order to start again.

This is from Dr. Georgia Purdom, a Christian scientist.

Crucifixion was invented by the Persians in 6 BC.
However, this type of punishment is Mentioned (prophesied) in psalms & Isaiah 100’s of years earlier!

It was a terrible death, only reserved For criminals, but considered too horrific for the Roman criminals.

Jesus’ trial was actually illegal, and the Sanhedrin priests chose not to believe in Him. His friends (disciples) and His family deserted Him, at the worst time.

Crucifixion actually means excruciation. That’s how bad this punishment was.

In Gethsemane. Jesus was in absolute agony (the only time this word is ever mentioned in The Bible).

His agony, at this point was Mental agony. He was under extreme stress. The Gospels say that His sweat was like great drops of blood. Apparently, humans can actually sweat blood, in the absolute worst cases of extreme stress.

On top of all this Mental stress and Agony, Pilate sent Him off for a scourging. Roman Scourging virtually killed people outright. 40 lashes minus one, apparently 40 lashes was enough to kill them. (Have you seen The passion movie? That’s not far from an actual Roman scourging).

As God made into a man, He could have wiped them all out in and instant, and risen to Heaven right there and then, but He chose to go through this for our sakes. (Plan A)

He was Spat on, mocked, had His beard tugged out (as had been prophesied in The Old Testament), and He wouldn’t have had a loin cloth on, He would have been stark naked.

As a human being, He would have suffered inner shock from the pain of the nails, Yet took no pain relief (at the time, they did offer gall or myrrh as a pain relief).

None of His bones could have been broken (as per the Passover lamb). Dislocation was probably likely though. Nails would have been hammered through ankles (or stype).

He was Forsaken by His Father, for our sins, which is why He cried out. His spiritual separation from His Father God was even worse than the pain.

The Romans made sure He was dead, they were experts at murder. Hence The Spear in His side. Blood and water came out, because apparently, at the point of death, the heart becomes surrounded by water. The soldier more than likely pierced His heart.

——————————————————-

So He died, no doubt about that. BUT, He rose again.

His Victory over death was a substitute for the death that we inherited from Adam and Eve in Eden (Romans 5).

He was Seen by five hundred plus people, for a period of forty days. It appears that He May have stuck around for His disciples, to help them believe ie. Thomas, Who He came back again for, and to restore Peter, who has gone back to his old life as a fisherman.

After they met the risen Lord, they never turned back to their old lives again. They went to their deaths, as martyrs in His name. Who else could have changed their destiny so abruptly?

In fact, all of the disciples died for their faith except John, (who still went through a lot).

What could have made these men, who had fled and left Jesus in the garden, have a change of heart?

It makes me think of that saying...If you want a job doing, do it yourself.

That’s what Jesus (God) did!

"Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o'er His foes,
He arose a victor o'er the dark domain,
And He lives forever with His saints to reign.
He arose, He arose, Halleluia, Christ arose "

“He is not here but has been raised!”

(Luke 24:6, NET)

There is an important footnote on this verse in the NET commentary.

”The verb here is passive. ... This ‘divine passive’ … points to the fact that Jesus was raised by God, and such activity by God is a consistent Lukan theological emphasis: Luke 20:37; 24:34; Acts 3:15; 4:10; 5:30; 10:40; 13:30.”

Despite the denials of unbelievers, it is a fact that God has vindicated Jesus by resurrecting him from the dead. Jesus was dead. Jesus has been made alive again!

He said "I lay down my life, so that I may take it up again" He raised Himself.
He is with The Father (Who is Spirit) and they are one, but Jesus communicates with us today.

I would pair this important technical point in Luke 24:6 with 2 Corinthians 4:14.

”We do so because we know that the one who raised up Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus and will bring us with you into his presence.”

(NET)
2 Corinthians 4:14 KJV
knowing that He which raised up the Lord Jesus, shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.

“He which raised up the Lord Jesus” is the Father.
