John 17

Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He [a]should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. 4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5 And now, O Father, glorify Me together [b]with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

6 “I have [c]manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. 7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. 8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.

9 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep[d] through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. 12 While I was with them [e]in the world, I kept them in [f]Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is [g]lost except the son of [h]perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify[i] them by Your truth. Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who [j]will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.

24 “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

Dear Walter and Debbie,

Here is what Christ came to do:

1John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world.

To accomplish the salvation of the world, it requires TWO separate "works" from Christ.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: PART 1). I am come that they might have life, and PART 2). that they might have it more abundantly.

The first part of Christ's work led Him to the cross and was accomplished under the Old Covenant of Law. When Christ said "it is finished", He only meant that His physical work under the Old Covenant was finished. From this first work, Christ now has the legal authority to resurrect all mankind from death.

Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

The second part of Christ's work is presently being accomplish under the New Covenant of Grace through Faith. From Christ's spiritual work, each person who has ever lived will be freely given a more abundant life - a life free from sin with a restored relationship with God.

To give mankind a more abundant life, Christ will spiritually change every person so that they are no longer carnally minded and sinful. This spiritual process is called "conversion". From this process, the old carnal & sinful person (child of the Devil) will be destroyed by Christ's judgment.

This verse applies to the death of the child of the Devil:

Isa 66:16 For by fire (judgment) and by his sword (God's Word) will the LORD plead with all flesh (all mankind): and the slain of the LORD shall be many.

But before the death described above occurs, Christ will give each person a new birth as a child of God so that their life does not end.

John the Baptist mentions both parts of the conversion process in the scripture below:

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with Fire.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit (Latter Rain/Spirit of Truth) is the baptism that gives a person a new spiritual birth as a child of God.

The baptism of Fire will immediately follow the new birth of the child of God. From Christ's judgment (Day of the Lord) all the spiritual components within the person which had made them carnal and sinful (child of the Devil) will be destroyed.

The destruction of the child of the Devil happens in the Lake of Fire. The Lake of Fire is the baptism of Fire and it represents the judgment of Christ that occurs within a person. It is not an outward literal place of unending fire as is commonly taught.

Since the salvation of mankind is by "promise", the New Covenant of Grace through Faith does not require any work from mankind.

Gen 18:17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; 18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?

Gal 3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law
(no works by the person), it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

In this age, Christ is beginning His spiritual work of conversion within those persons who have been chosen from the foundation of the world to be the spiritual heirs of Abraham. They are called the Elect/Bride of Christ and will be the "first fruits" of Christ's harvest of mankind.

In the final age, Christ and the heirs of Abraham will bless the balance of mankind (all the nations of the earth) with the same salvation that they were freely given in this age.

In the end, all mankind will be converted and will have a more abundant life in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Mankind's salvation happens by "promise" and for that reason, Paul says that salvation is a "gift from God" and is "not of works":

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

When Christ's work of saving mankind is fully completed, the scriptures below will be testified to be true:

Rom 5:18 so then as it was by one offence towards all men to condemnation, so by one righteousness towards all men for justification of life. 19 For as indeed by the disobedience of the one man the many have been constituted sinners, so also by the obedience of the one the many will be constituted righteous.

1Tim 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; 4 who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

John 19:30
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

JOhn 17 is in trhe Aorist active indicative- which does not denote the exact time the work was finished.

John 19 is the perfect passive indicative which shows the complete work of Jesus had been accomplished.

If i may besides the scripture quote but based on Biblical context in summary, would like to add the following.

Over more than 2,000 years evidently are born again, baptism of water and of the Spirit, and true Biblical church of saints.

And, martyrdom faith merely for the Gospel sake, thus, proof the author and finisher of our faith's mission completion on the Cross.

Ironically there is no other faith in this world can ever come close or even match it.

When Jesus said, it is finished, it is presumption to think that what was finished was the sum total complete, done and dusted work of salvation for mankind. The angel told Joseph,
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. ”
Matthew 1:21 KJV
Is the above bolded part "finished"?

Hello Fred, We Must Endure To The End.

Love, Walter And Debbie
Dear WalterandDebbie,
Just curious - what do you believe is the "end"?

I believe the "end" occurs when a babe is converted because that is when the child of the Devil is killed. When that day arrives for an Elect person, their spiritual blindness will be healed and all the OT "types" will open up to the newly converted person's understanding.

1Cor 10:11 Now all these things happened to them as types, and have been written for our admonition, upon whom the end of the ages are come.

Christ mentions the same "end" in this verse:

Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Christ is also referring to the end of the ages. So if all the Elect have the "end" come upon them before they physically die (as Paul says), the "end" cannot be referring to the literal end of this present age as is commonly believed. The "end of the ages" is a spiritual symbol for an Elect person's day of salvation/conversion. After an Elect person is converted, they can never fall away or lose their salvation.

Matthew chapter 24 is a teaching on the spiritual events that lead up to an Elect person's moment of conversion. It has nothing to do with any supposed outward events that will happen in this world just prior to the literal end of this age. The same is true about the book of Revelation because it says that the Elect must "keep the sayings of the prophecy" (Rev 1:3 & 22:9). If the events of the prophecy only happen at the literal end of this present age, only a very small portion of the Elect would be able to keep the sayings (both the good and the bad).

More proof: Compare what Peter says in Acts 2:17-22 concerning his conversion which just occurred and compare it with what Christ says in Mat 24:29. The sun and moon are "spirit" words (John 6:63). The sun, moon and stars are used in the celestial analogy which teaches from where a person receives their truth. When scripture says that a person's natural sun (Satan) and moon (Old Covenant) are darkened, it means that they no longer receive their truth from Satan and his crooked way (man's works). This paradigm change happens because the Elect person's spiritual blindness was healed when they received the Latter Rain of the Spirit (Spirit of Truth, John 16:13). When this happens, the Elect person is experiencing a spiritual earthquake. After the person is born as a child of God, they will only receive their light from Christ, the Sun of righteousness.

Dear WalterandDebbie,

I will address what Mat 24:14 is teaching. However, it will be not be possible for you to accept what it teaches unless the end of the ages is coming upon you. I'll explain more about this reason below.

The spiritual message that Mat 24:14 is teaching is very concealed. From what I am about to present to you, you will probably think I am greatly mistaken. But I can tell you, I have 100% certainty on what I am about to present to you. If I wasn't 100% certain, I would not present it.

Matthew chapter 24 is a spiritual teaching of the New Covenant that teaches certain spiritual steps that lead an Elect person to their moment of conversion (end of the ages). The truth that it teaches cannot be understood by assigning meanings to Christ's spirit words as mankind defines them.

1Cor 2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things (words) with spiritual (words).

Christ spirit words carry their own meanings, so much so, that scripture says it is "another language":

Isa 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? Them (the converted Elect) that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. 10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: 11 For with stammering lips and another language (spiritual language) will he speak to this people. 12 But the word of the LORD was unto them (babes who draw milk) precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken (by Satan).

To understand Christ's spiritual language, a person MUST be guided by the Spirit of Truth and compare each spirit word with how it is used elsewhere in scripture.

Because babes do not have the Spirit of Truth, they have very little ability to understand Christ's spiritual teachings of the New Covenant.

This truth is taught by Paul's conversion experience (Acts 9) and by Mat 12:43-45 and Mark 8:15-25.

Now, concerning what Mat 24:14 is actually teaching:

Mat 24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

"This gospel of the kingdom" is referring to Satan's "another gospel".

2Cor 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

Satan masquerades as Christ to carnally minded babes and deceives them into accepting "another gospel" via "another spirit" (spirit of anti-Christ). When they accept Satan's false gospel, they will fall backward, be broken, snared and taken.

Since Paul's death, all the babes in the church have become apostate. Since that time, nothing has changed. All new believers (babes) will likewise become apostate.

The spirit word "world" is referring to one Elect person who at that time is an apostate babe.

The phrase "witness to all nations" is referring to Satan's gospel being fully accepted by all the beliefs (nations) of the apostate babe.

The full meaning of the verse is saying that after an Elect babe has fully accepted Satan's false gospel and has become apostate, they are ready for the end of the ages to come upon them (the conversion event).

When Christ comes to an apostate Elect babe to convert them, He will first pour out the Latter Rain of the Spirit which will heal their spiritual blindness. After they have "eyes that can see", they will "see" the Abomination of Desolation that previously occurred within themselves when the spirit of anti-Christ indwelt them.

Mat 24:15 When (not "if") ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) 16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

When the apostate Elect babe sees that they have become apostate (Abomination of Desolation), they will repent of their works and be made faithful again. After they are made faithful, the child of God will be born and gathered to heaven:

Mat 24:29 Immediately after the (great) tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

The "great tribulation" is a symbol for the time an Elect babe spends as a "man of sin". As I explained earlier, the sun and moon being darkened represents that the Elect person is no longer receiving their truth from Satan and the Old Covenant (the crooked way of man's works).

In Mat 24:15, the phrase "fleeing to the mountains" is a "type" that comes from the story of Lot. Lot is a type for an apostate Elect babe who is in the process of being converted.

When Lot flees to the mountains, it represents the new child of God being gathered to heaven (as Mat 24:31 presents) just before judgment falls. From that judgment, the man of sin will be destroyed (all the spiritual things within the person that has made them carnally minded and sinful). After this judgment is complete, the Elect person will be converted.
