It's only going to get worse.

Only if we let it. Christians have for far too long set on the sidelines and have adopted an insular mindset that has rendered us ineffectual and powerless. There's a paradigm shift that needs to take place. The pagan world the early Christians were born into was much worse, but they radically changed the culture. That is what is needed today.

How do you reconcile those wise observations with the scripture that tells us,as far as the political angle,God chooses whom he will to sit in authority over us?

I respectfully disagree as to what is needed is a repeat of history .

Horrific savagery under Catholic church order caused countless persons, pagan and Christian alike to suffer torture and death so to establish a new order of things.

Does God choose everyone, though, even someone like Hitler? We know Satan is also in the business of appointing leaders. Satan tempted Jesus with all the kingdoms of the world, which is why he is called the god of this world (2Co 4:4). So, there are three forces at work in our world: God, Satan, and our own free will. God may act unilaterally in His sovereignty, but He also leaves a lot of things up to us. The type of people we elect and what we allow is largely dependent on us.

I wasn't referring to the Catholic Church. Christianity in itself can have a transformative effect on society. The Vikings, for instance, were some of the most brutal, barbaric people on the planet. Yet, Christianity tamed the Vikings without coercion or bloodshed.

Hitler was a practicing Catholic.
Stalin a lapsed Orthodox Christian who at one time served an office in his church.

The Vikings, Norse people, weren't ever tamed.

And Satan was once an angel of light. What's your point?

p.s. I highly doubt that bit about Hitler.

The Vikings, Norse people, weren't ever tamed.

Sure they they were. The Vikings were absolutely brutal. In fact, the world prior to Christianity was a brutal, violent place. People, at least in the Western world, have largely internalized the Christian ethic, and the sacredness of life, that they have largely forgotten where it came from. To quote Professor Schmidt, "Any "noble pagan" today recoils, for example, from the thought of killing babies, but "noble pagans" of antiquity prior to Christianity did not so recoil."

When the scriptures don't inform you, I cannot.

You should study more. It is well known that Hitler was a practicing Catholic.

As for the Norse, “We may be confident that the conversion of Scandinavia was gradual, piecemeal, muddled and undisciplined.” Historian Richard Fletcher

With regard to the Vikings killing children.

With the Old Testament history in our Bibles as record,I don't think we can judge others slaughter of babies and infants.

That's a stretch. He may have been raised culturally Catholic, as many were, and used it for political gain, but he abandoned it at some point. His worldview was more in inline with social Darwinism and paganism. The swastika itself was a pagan symbol long before it was associated with the Nazis. The Zeppelin Grandstand he had constructed for his speeches is modeled after the Alter of Zeus (aka the Pergamon Altar, i.e., the Seat of Satan). His ideas about eugenics and racial purity are directly a result of Darwin's The Descent of Man. Nothing about his life or actions indicated he was a practicing Catholic.

They don't address all the other stuff Vikings did while pillaging like raping and killing. Not sure why you are trying to defend them.

Why not? It's merely a record of things that happened and proves my point: the world was much more barbaric before Christianity raised the standard. I'll give you another example: pedophilia. The practice of pedophilia/pederasty was common in the Greek and Roman world. The aversion to it today is a direct result of Christian influence.

Everything does. You know nothing of Hitler or his motivation.

In your ignorance you condemn pagans who fought and conquered in the name of tribe and glory, conquest.

They're pagans. Which means damned and bad in your book.

The Old Testament relates God's people doing the same thing.

I see.

The God of the barbarism reported in the Old Testament is Yeshua of the New.

The Word , God, made flesh who dwelt among us.

And Yeshua,Jesus, changed nothing about eternal Hell.

Thinking our God is kinder than the pagans god's is an elective that history does not support.
