I made chili a couple of days ago. It lasts a couple of days.

I get lean ground beef and brown some in a large skillet. Drain any fat. Then I add in a can of drained kidney beans and a can of tomatoes (you could chop up fresh tomatoes). I add in some ketchup for sauce. Also the canned tomatoes have some fluid towards sauce.

I used to chop up celery and add that in, too. If you like onions, you could add those.

I get about four meals out of it.

My only freezer is the one connected to my refrigerator.

Actually I don't cook too much. When I buy frozen dinners, I like Amy's alot. They are vegetarian and very tasty. Some don't have any cholesterol. They have alot of ethnic dinners which I like... mainly Indian and Mexican.

As far as soups go, I'm quite fond of chili, chowders, and bisques. I couldn't tell you how to make them from scratch, though. But I do know how to use a can opener.

Those tinned soups are unhealthy my friend....says she, whose been eating rubbish for years, I only found out I was eating rubbish yesterday, after consulting with a nutritionist...

Thank God my Son sent me to her and paid...I tried telling my Son that he too needs to see her, he said, don’t you start, when you too have been eating crap for years, hehehe,LOL..

My diet has got to drastically change , due to my health issues...will be interesting to see what happens, sticking to a strict diet...so much has been cut out of it, of course it’s all stuff that’s bad for my gut./ arteries/ heart/ kidneys/ liver..etc.

A favourite quick and easy meal:

Pasta made from green lentils or yellow pea (high protein)
Pack of chestnut mushrooms sliced and sauted in a little oil or butter
Pack of cavolo nero (cabbage) deveined and sliced and steamed above pasta
Garlic clove grated
Vegan pesto - I like the raw basil one.
Vegan feta cheese cubed to top.
Little olive oil to finish.

It makes two meals for me. I am not a vegan but avoid dairy.

I’m going to try that tomorrow, provided my supermarket has an artichoke.

Did you just scrub the JA, then placed it in the stock with the cut up cauliflower, ?

I could cook that in my instant pot( pressure cooker) it would only take a few minutes.

The Lord told me not to eat pork, mayonnaise, or quiche. Keep away from most dairy and heavy cream. Stick with high fiber foods Sourdough bread with only three ingredients. water, salt, and flour. This is anti-inflammatory and good for the gut.

Now for flavor. Aside from the chilis and normal soups, make a Creole and add protein, preferably fish, or shrimp. A Low country broil is good too. I like to try new things.

I’ve just prepped these vegetables to go with my beef stew over the next 4 days...they are broccoli, swede, carrots, cabbage, plus leeks, can you think of any other vegetables that I could add, as I seem to stick with the ones I know, I’ve gone right off Brussel sprouts for some reason.53225D9F-74ED-40B4-BBC2-7433577DED80.jpeg

My parents lived up into their 80's and my dad's side lived into their 90's in age. I asked myself what they did growing up and the food they ate. Studies found out, exercise during your early growth years carry over into later life. That's why I'm healthy. I walked everywhere and played every day, baseball and football, and track in school. I had lots of exercise growing up and I have good energy now. So exercise is the key to good health at any age, and vegetables, fruit, and meat. Fast for 12 hrs. a day, 8 of those hrs. is your sleep. to keep your system clean.

That's great, I love to get going and walking. I always tell people to Get out and move, you'll feel a lot better. I heard a quote from someone once about exercise. " It's the difference between feeling good and feeling great".

I’ve had to make a dramatic change to my eating habits.

Can anyone recommend some lovely soups or even home meals to make.

It must all be made from scratch please..
My mom used to cook everything from scratch, here is a simple one that is easy and excllent;

Chicken stew;

I large onion, chopped
1 large carrot cut in 1/2 inch chunks
2 celery stalk cut 1/2 inch slices
1 medium chicken fresh

spices you can use thym, 1 laurel leave, or rosemary, salt and pepper to taste

cook the onions medium heat until transparent, add whole chicken, cover with water, plus 2 inches extra
add veggies and spices to taste.

cook medium low heat, for 1 hour 30 minutes
remove chicken and separate meat, keep aside,

pass the broth in a colander,

in the Broth add some but not all the meat, rectify seasoning, you can reuse a few of the celeri and carrots if they are not too squished, you can add if you like 1/4 cup rice of pasta just cook until all is done.

fast to do and as an extra you have plenty of chicken left over for another meal..

Cheers.
