But I do know what I believe: God decided to come down to earth as Jesus.

There are those who believe Jesus was the Son of God.

In either case, Jesus preached and had his words written down so we could learn how to have peace and safety. He then allowed himself to be nailed to a cross to save us from our sins.

I think these two groups can coexist.
Why did God come to earth ? What was His Purpose ? Did He accomplish anything ? For who

You seem to be implying you would have knowledge of my salvation status and just who my savior is .

Actually Jesus is my savior because I believed on Him .

Acts 16:31 Context

28But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. 29Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. 34And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

If you want to know which Jesus you believe in, read the Sermon on the Mount. Then read it again, and again, and again. Hold it up against your own life and your walk with Christ.

Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. 19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

"Christianity is distinguished by the remarkable characteristic that it is the only world religion which begins by discarding its own founders creed."

Anthony Buzzard

"He that has doctrinal knowledge and speculation only, without affection, never is engaged in the business of religion."

Jonathan Edwards

I can't recall the last time I heard the Sermon on the Mount preached from the pulpit. I can't ever recall seeing a thread on it either.
Maybe I missed it.

I've been reading this first recorded sermon of the Lord Jesus Christ over and over for a while now.

What I've learned, is how far below this standard has been my own personal walk with Christ. And with that knowledge, how merciful, long suffering, patient and kind He is towards me.

3 His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue.

4 Thereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

5 And besides this, using all diligence, add to your faith virtue, and to virtue knowledge,

6 and to knowledge temperance, and to temperance patience, and to patience godliness,

7 and to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness charity.

8 For if these things be in you and abound, they make you that ye shall be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 But he that lacketh these things is blind and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

10 Therefore brethren, give diligence all the more to make your calling and election sure, for if ye do these things ye shall never fall.
2 Peter 1
Read it all . not just the sermon on the mount . THOUGH that is lovely too .
Many seem to follow a jesus that holds rainbows and kisses korans and budda statues . That ONE AINT JESUS .

Matt 1:21

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Rom 3:26

26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

2 Cor 11:4

4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

Theres a popular jesus these days being preached and believed on, and not the Jesus of the scripture to whom it is emphatically declared, Matt 1:21

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Now in lieu of this stated Jesus theres the jesus of what is called today arminianism, and heres what taught regarding this false jesus:

Friends, if you believe in this jesus, i must admonish you, this is not the Jesus of Matt 1:21 or Rom 3:26, neither 2 Cor 11:4
This is just Calvinism you are promoting. There's nothing wrong with believing in Arminianism

So being saved from hell isnt something Jesus does, but something the sinner is taught to do ?
First of all, we've all sinned, so we need to be saved (from the consequences of our sin), and Jesus has done that for us by dying on the cross.

What's next? Jesus told us to stop sinning (Matthew 4:17). If we stop sinning, then we don't have to worry about the consequences of our sin.

Paul said this (about working out our own salvation):

[12] Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
[13] for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Philippians 2:12-13 RSV

Calvinism is still the Gospel, like limited atonement.
