A humanitarian is a person who is concerned with the welfare of others and works to improve their lives. Humanitarians can be volunteers or paid employees who work on global issues.

Is the an stance based on worldly terms or on Gods terms?

Just curious. I get helping people, however is this a work of the world or of God?

It all depends on the motive.
Someone involved in ' doing good 'because it is a good thing to do and it makes them feel good is not serving God. There reason and motive is worldly.

Someone who because they love Jesus puts their loose change in a charity collection tin inserting God.

Is God a humanitarian? No.

Gods purpose is not to give people the best possible life.
He wants people to know him and here we enter trou led waters.

God choses who will be saved, he gives them the gift of faith, not everyone will go to heaven.
So while God gives everyone life, he gives a general blessing to everyone there is an elected group who he has saved.
Whether you believe that or that people can chose to be saved, the end result is some go to heave and some don't.

I'd say many who think they are going to Heaven wont....and it's because of their tight fisted attitude towards others.
'what you have done to the least, you have done it to me'.....Jesus

Being tight fisted/mean is not on its own a disqualified.
It is an indication of where there love really is.

Paul desired to know the sufferings of Christ, in order to attain the resurrection of the dead. The better resurrection.

So it's not about having the best possible life, but looking to God, and learning of Yeshua?

Concern for the poor is written throughout both the Old and the New Testaments.

And I know some of you guys out there are barely scraping by yourselves. Don't worry about it. These commandment are especially targeted to those of us who have been blessed with material goods. "To whom much is given, much is expected".

Jesus said “you will always have the poor with you.”

“But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.””
‭‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

While people can give things it doesn’t always mean it’s coming from the heart for God. It sometimes is just for the well being of another, and “self-gratification.”

@Lambano.

“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

Matthew 6:2

I agree about helping the poor.

I always used to give money or buy the homeless a sandwich and a hot drink when I used to visit my Sons in Newbury.

That was until a bus driver told me some are making a Living out of it , others to fund their drug/ alcohol habit...since I received that information, I’ve stopped giving..

Yes and if the question were, "are Jews and Christians to be humanitarians," the answer based on Scripture, would be yes. But that's not the question, is it?

These commandments hit hardest those of us who have been blessed with material goods. "To whom much is given, much is expected".
The commandments you reference apply to us or restrict our behavior, not God. With almighty power to provide with so many poor unprovided for, your question is a very difficult one @MatthewG. If you look up the definition, the answer is clearly, yes.

One might argue an all powerful God is not doing all he can for humanitarian causes. This is the path to blasphemy, putting ourselves above God, whose ways are higher than our ways, to judge him. The more insightful question is, are we doing all we can for humanitarian causes?

And I don't mean as @Lambano said, for those with material wealth to give to those who don't. I mean are the 9 billion people on Earth turning to God? As our Lord said:
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Jesus, Matthew 6:33

IMO, Christiandom has become way too overly spiritualized. Our Lord also talked about counting the cost of discipleship in
Luke 14:25-34. These are 2 specific examples of spiritual capitalism, a divine exchange. The general way of God is through contract or covenant, where there is a burden on both sides to participate - Not a system where some give and some get but all give. Too many Christians abandon this principle of fair exchange, becoming more gracious than our God at the expense of justice.

For instance, many Christians are intimidated by secular society to even pray with the poor who have material needs. We are expected to give nowadays without even expecting a demonstration of humility from those who receive God's many manifest blessings; to bow our heads and prayer and give thanks! People act offended that Christians would evangelize while giving blessing and alms to the poor. Just a few months ago in the UK, the courts criminalized even silent prayer. What an ungrateful, stiff-necked people we are! Enemies of Christ abound.

Worse than all this, often when people are materially secure, they turn from God. No wonder God does not give as much as he might. The true god is not the god of materialism.

Its the work of the world . The work of GOD is to preach JESUS to the lost and all things HE did teach .
THE big ol work of humantarism , THOUGH it might say to do some good
Sure has a problem with The preaching of JESUS the CHRIST as the only name whereby one may be saved .
This humantarian concepts is the world doing what it believes is good
and will usher in world peace . But there is none who is good
BUT GOD and all need to hear of JESUS THE CHRIST and to believe and be saved .
