Your comment about Stephen reminds me about what God said about regarding Abraham.
Genesis 20:7
"Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all who belong to you will die."
Really important to consider the examples given to us.

Abraham prayed for Sodom. Had there been as few as ten righteous people, God would have relented.
But Lot was saved.
Notice Abraham prayed.
I am sure that God was more gentle with you in order to bring you to Him. We both deserved worse, but God sent his son Jesus. We have to ask God to bless others and let them know God as a savior- with the same grace we pray for. Jesus came to save.

I was talking with a fire truck commander about the fires in LA. His comment was that the houses are fire traps because of the tradition of their construction. The weakness being associated with their roof construction. The materials that most of the roofs are constructed of are extremely flammable and because most of the homes that were burned down caught fire in the regions of their roof.
Before the houses are rebuilt, there are some fundamental changes that need to be made with respect to how the roofs are constructed.
Perhaps if sheet metal roofs, concrete or clay roofing tiles were installed, instead of timber shingles this would reduce the risk of homes catching fire as easily as demonstrated in the present fires in LA.
In Australia, there has been lots of research into how the risk from high winds, floods and bush fires can be reduced to more acceptable levels through some simple measures being taken during their construction. In LA there is now an opportunity for more suitable houses to be built to deal with fires, floods and high winds.
With regards to the design of water reticulation, there is a need to balance the cost of piping networks that meets the day-to-day usage patterns of a housing estate that also takes into account the needs for the supplying of adequate firefighting water within any housing estates. The questions that need to be answered at the design stage of the water reticulation system within a housing estate, is how far apart the fire hydrants should be spaced, and how many house fires should be considered that will occur at the same time. The worst fire scenario is possibly having three houses on fire next to each other which then determines how much water must be supplied to satisfy having three houses on fire. The firemen will then connect as many fire hydrants as possible to their fire trucks so that they can increase the water flow to the fire using the water pumps on their appliances.
Having a large "bush" fire within a housing estate means that the designed three houses on fire is exceeded many times over and the designed water reticulation network will not be able to supply the required water for all of the fires occurring at the same time. The outcome for the water network is that the water pressure in the pipes will fall to zero and no water will be available anywhere in the water reticulation network to fight any fires at all.
My post is not a definitive study on all of the reasons that has contributed to the fire outcomes, but hopefully it will provide enough useful information for more people to understand some of the problems that have been faced in the LA fire storm.

We have concrete roofs here in the islands as it protects against fire, wind or objects, but the cost is prohibitive for large homes. They will keep building with the more inexpensive and more flammable materials..
There are other cheap materials that roofs can be built with, i.e. metal roofs. like Kilplok roof sheeting. Your houses on the islands where you live probably have concrete block walls to support the concrete roofs, but the reason that the roofs are concrete is that when the owner has saved up enough money, he then adds another floor to his house, and he installs another concrete roof so that the house can have additional floors built at a later time. You also build with concrete as that is rust proof for the reinforcement and timber is expensive. All that you need to import to the island is steel reinforcement and cement powder as the sand and gravel can be found on the island to build with.
My experience/observation of house construction in Nepal is that many houses are of concrete construction with concrete columns infilled with soft clay bricks and the house may take years to complete their construction. I am not suggesting that the houses in LA be built using concrete construction methods like they do in Nepal.
My post was written to provide a simplified explanation as to why so many houses caught on fire and also why there was a water supply problem in the housing estates where the fire were. The solution has to be suitable for the USA conditions and constrains, i.e. building codes. I was also suggesting that the USA building codes should be looked at to see if there are improvements that can be written into the building codes.
After Cyclone Tracy, 50 years ago, research demonstrated that using nails to fix cyclone bracing was inadequate and that wood screws increased the cyclone bracing strength many times. The research also demonstrated that plywood corner bracing was also important.
Hobie, you are entitled to voice your opinion as to how LA should rebuild the destroyed houses, but the information you provide should be appropriate for the LA situation and the solution that they might adopt.

For me it was that Lot's Wife looked back towards the city and so she became a pillar of salt.
We can't have any love for anything that is of the world. I wonder what Lots wife was looking back to see? I suspect that she had fond memories about something there.

if you look at this you will see an allegory within it .
THE JUST in the place of the UNJUST to take on His punishment .
JESUS died for the ungodly so that all who do BELEIVE in HIM would not perish but have everlasting life .
And you can see the hatred of the world against CHRIST and the choosing of the murderer by the peoples .
The reason i brought this latter part up is
because if we go to and behold a lot within even christendom they are choosing the love of the murderer
who has promised them eternal life and yet has DENIED JESUS the CHRIST and made the path very broad
and sin accepting . MANY are choosing the love of the world rather than the LOVE OF GOD .
And this is the LOVE of GOD that GOD did send the SON to be the savoir of the world .
Yet by its version of love it has lied to the many and has in effect silenced the one true gospel of BELIEVE YE IN HIM
which could have saved them . IT has offered them up a big ol fat way life preserver
But that ship SINKS on the day of the LORD . THOSE in ark , THEY BE SAFE .
What we have here is a love of the world which cometh of that which is of anti christ
to gather the deceived , to gather all who rejected the LOVE of the TRUTH whereby they could have been saved
and is giving them THIS DELUSION INSTEAD , saying and implying that all religoins are serving the same GOD we do .
And that it simply dont matter if they repent to beleive JESUS is the CHRIST .
IN fact they make the cliam that preaching JESUS as the ONLY WAY , gets in the way and is divivise and offensive .
THEY beleive they will attain peace n safety , yet on that path SUDDEN DESTRUCTION awaits .
This big ol love line , WHICH SURE AINT THE LOVE OF GOD , that many are grabbing a hold of
SIMPLY will not save them but will be their END in perditoin .

OH its tied all into that .
EVEN JESUS warned those who tried to look back NOT TO DO SO .
many hear yet many cannot give up their life and have no desire to submit to HE WHO CAN SAVE THEM .
THIS is why many now preach another jesus .
You know one that honors and accepts their sin . we got rainbow jesus ,we got money money jesus
AND YET NONE OF THAT IS JESUS . its what paul would term another jesus , another spirit , another gospel .
But many within christendom have long turned the church into a money making business .
And when money or cares and pleasures in life are on the brain , YOU CAN BET
they will focus on what keeps that coming in rather than ON THE TRUTH that saves .

If a man love his life then a man will preach that which best serves his own interests and NOT THAT OF THE SHEEP .
it will preach a message that is smooth and offends none . It does so to get numbers .
It creates a jesus that will focus on this world , its cares , its pleasures
These are hirelings who care not for the sheep but only for their own survival and the path which leads
to their own hearts desire .
And they who sit under them become two fold the child of hell as even they , IT JUST KEEPS GETTING WORSE .
