The fire started about 10:30 am today, exacerbated by high winds which are not normal for us. I even heard the winds and I'm near downtown Los Angeles. Stronger winds coming later tonight.

As of early evening, the fire is now over 1200 acres. 30,000 people evacuated.
Following is live coverage.

Pacific Palisades fire is over 2900 acres now.

Another wildfire has broken out, this one near Pasadena in Altadena. People being evacuated from there as well. Seniors from a senior center were taken out on stretchers.

Winds are very strong even in my underground garage when I dumped the trash.

Now there is a separate, third wildfire...and I heard there is also a fourth wildfire.

The strong winds are blowing embers around badly so they start new fires. Even here in the heart of the city, I've heard firetruck sirens twice this evening.

This video shows the intensity of the winds and how it is madly driving the sparks.

Btw, this reporter is one of my favorites. In this video he tries to help someone fleeing the fires on a bicycle.

Have you considered moving? Now is a good time to think about it.
I am safe in the heart of Los Angeles. Very convenient to doctors, etc. If they demolish my building, I will have to make a change. Other apartment buildings start around $2,000 a month for a one bedroom apartment.

I don't know where to move to. I don't drive anymore. My cousin lives in Amish country Ohio and you need a car. He's just a little younger than me and married so I cannot expect him to drive me to my doctors, etc.

Pacific Palisades and more smoking infernos

The problem was those really strong winds.... hurricane like. So it blew sheets of embers everywhere to start new fires.

And because of the high winds, the water dropping and flame retardant dropping aircraft couldn't fly. They finally started flying yesterday because the winds died down.

There's now four wildfires.

Some hydrants ran dry because the fire fighters were using four times as much water.

That's tough as this is a mobile nation, but I also wonder when I stop driving. I can walk to a grocery store, and Walmart delivers to my door. My doctor dropped me because he voluntarily withdrew from my insurance plan. I guess he couldn't make enough money, so I didn't need him anyway. There's always another doctor, not as greedy. But I trust the Lord completely and I know He will take care of me, He always has.

When I was younger I was always going places and doing errands via our nice subway system. But don't walk as easily now so mainly stay inside.

See my opthalmologist twice a year because I have Glaucoma. He is only one block from me. My dentist is next door! Pharmacy is one and a half blocks away.

The city gives seniors and disabled $84 a quarter towards taxi fares. My regular doctor is a short taxi ride away.

The only bad thing is the high rents and once in a great while we feel an earthquake.

I do get groceries delivered from Target since August 2023 which helps a lot.

I saw this about LA fire hydrants today . Should be a severe punishment for stealing a fire hydrant !

L.A. Hit with Hydrant Crime Wave Prior to Current Fires
I think the stealing of fire hydrants occurs in poor neighborhoods. South Los Angeles is considered a poor area.

Anyone stealing a hydrant in an affluent area would stick out like a sore thumb.

Currently we have six different wildfires burning...all in affluent areas.

Strong winds still in the region.

I was thinking they should rebuild with fire resistant homes. Buildings that wind blown embers can't set on fire.

No exposed burnable materials on buildings.
No roof shingles that can burn, no rubber membrane roofs that can burn. no tar products.
No sidings that can burn
no window frames that can burn

Yes, inside can burn, but these fires are being spread by glowing embers on the winds.

You have to build with materials appropriate for the risks of an area.

They make metal shingles, cement siding materials, metal window and door frames, this is possible.
