About noon today as I walked my dog I could hear a murder of crows in the trees nearby and then I looked up and counted fifteen buzzards flying around in a group . After dark today as I passed a creek on my road I saw a large possum , maybe a 20 pounder .
I heard a pack of coyotes a few nights ago .

I don't have crows or possums but I get a lot of small birds in my garden and a cheeky squirrel who would come in the house if I let it.

About a week ago, a pack of coyotes took something big down, probably a deer as their creepy howls went on for sometime.
I saw a possum yesterday that was hit by a car. See many deer that have been killed by cars :(

The other night, the Sneaky Labrador started barking at about 11 p.m. A big deer was out front munching on the pansies I'd just planted. If it wasn't illegal to discharge a firearm inside city limits, that deer head would be mounted above the fireplace.

I once hit a deer at 65 MPH on the freeway. Caused $3000 worth of damage to the front end of my Mazda. The deer was totaled.

We have native forest behind the house, so we see a good variety of critters like squirrels, 'possums, raccoons, skunks, snakes, bats, herons, hawks, buzzards... The Sweet Lady says she's even seen a fox or two.

Back in Colorado, our house was close to the Rocky Mountains. I never saw any, but my dad and my brother have seen bears and mountain lions. (And my brother texted me a picture of the bear for proof.)

Now, when we lived down in Florida, there were alligators in almost every open body of water. I remember taking the kids to a wildlife refuge, and there was a family there whose little boy was chunking rocks at a 'gator while their little girl was trying to poke it with a stick. The parents just stood there watching. The father says to me, in the most delightful British accent, "Excuse me, sir. That animal - is it dangerous?" I guess you don't have much experience with alligators in the UK.

Wow, they don't know how lucky they were....or protected by God! I remember the older lady walking her dog near a pond in Florida and she got killed. The dog got away.

I understand Alligators and Crocs can move really fast and suddenly.

Many years ago I saw an Opossum across the street in the bushes while walking my dog. (I'm in the heart of the city.) Just lately a neighbor told me about seeing an Opossum baby.

There is a large yard between the apartment buildings across the street...some trees and bushes. So I guess that Opossum family is still around.

I wonder what they eat?

There are coyotes, bears, Rattlesnakes and a few Mountain Lions in and around Los Angeles. Not my neighborhood but coyotes do come right in the city.

On a couple of my early morning walks this summer here in Sparks, Nevada, the city that sits next to Reno, I saw a coyote. The second time it was exiting our apartment cooperative.

Wonderful posts.

Coyote packs and javelina herds in and around our neighborhood. By the way: they do not share with “their brothers”—lots of squabbling when they feed (just a reminder that we, too, are social mammals, but when we listen to God to share and care, we are truly living in His image).

Birds: doves, fat quail, finches, cactus wrens, and the hilarious Gila woodpeckers. At the feeders, they spray seed everywhere, to the delight of the ground-scratchers. They also dominate the hummingbird feeder, to the annoyance of the hummingbirds (4 year-round species).

Bird predators: lovely owls and feisty hawks. One can always tell when the latter have been in the birdbath: there is tell-tale grease on the surface.

Nature’s bounty: Thank you, God!

Blessings.

That reminds me: On one of my bike rides, I found a farm where they raise either llamas or alpacas; I can't tell the difference. They're definitely not from around here, whatever they are.
They aren’t native to our country, they breed them over here, Brother..I can’t tell the difference either,I have no idea why they breed them over here, I hope they don’t eat them.

Maybe for their wool?

Just found this information online.

Some llamas are kept as pets or as companions to animals such as horses or goats, and others are kept for their high-quality fibre (fleece). This fibre, although not generally as fine as that of alpacas, can be used for hand spinning, felting, and for fibre used in crafts.

Sadly we have a lot around here, not sure if you know the road to Basingstoke, we had a run in with a deer late at night it came completely out of the blue , killed instantly, so sad and did £2,000 Of damage to car...

When I drive to Basingstoke quite a few deer ,badgers, pheasant, all dead on the roadside...that road is a high risk road for human fatalities also ( road accidents)

Don’t think I have ever been that way but my son lives in mid Sussex and hit a deer once. Damaged his van but the deer was badly hurt. They called the RSPCA and they had to shoot it in front of them, then you know what they did, asked my son if he wanted to take any of the meat home with him ( he declined )

My dad tells the story of when he was riding his bike to work in Colorado, when he passed the scene of an accident where a car had hit a deer. Nobody was hurt (except the deer). A state trooper was on the scene taking his statement, when another driver stopped and asked if he could take the meat. The original driver (who was probably a little aggravated to begin with) said, "No, I hit it fair-and-square; it's mine!" The second driver took offense at his attitude and started to get belligerent. The trooper then had to deescalate the confrontation before it became fist fight and resulted in somebody getting arrested. All over a chunk of deer meat. Sheesh.
