Arrogant passive aggressiveness perhaps?! I am extremely well educated in the Founding Documents of the greatest country that ever was and educated more than one lawyer on the topic. I was amazed that not even lawyers were not taught the historical debates the Founding Father's had in crafting the words of Constitution as well as the Bill of Rights, for that is like a Biblical concordance, adding so much clarity and depth of understanding - and range of applicability.
It’s a shame that you are not as “extremely well educated” in the document known as the Holy Bible.

Your opinion of your own nation is sadly not shared by people of other democratic countries who feel sorry that your citizens are taught to be so politically gullible....no matter who gets in power, the other half are throwing tantrums. Change leadership and the first half now are throwing tantrums.....they get so het up that your Presidents have to keep ducking bullets......so its probably the greatest country for Presidential assassinations....and school shootings....nothing to do with your gun laws of course....

So, it seems that no one ever gets the message in a two party political system....? It’s a double treadmill with carrots attached to the frame. They all use the same carrots that no one gets to eat.

Politicians never deliver what they promise and the propaganda used to politically educate the people is kinda like a bad reality TV show.
Australia and other democracies are over it, and if it wasn’t compulsory to vote in my country, hardly anyone would bother given their appalling track record. People here used to argue about politics...they don’t anymore....and haven’t for quite some time.....it’s all a joke....no one trusts a politician’s promises.

In order to “make America great again” it would have to have been “great” in the first place. Like your country, half of mine are homeless due to greed and political mismanagement. The rich are getting richer but the poor are still their slaves.
How many jobs does a person in your country have to work just to put food on the table? Don’t look now but America, like a lot of other democratically ruled nations, is in a financial hole that they can’t really dig themselves out of for a very long time.....the national debt in the US of $35 trillion is staggering....the largest in the world. How great does that make America I wonder? Are you wearing patriotically coloured glasses?

Perhaps it is only militarily that America is “great” spending more on defence that many other nations combined. Does America have more enemies than other nations? As y’all are armed to the teeth, maybe it’s each other you have to protect yourselves from? How can anyone feel safe in your great country?

Wrangler said:
LOL Law has little effect without force. What an anarchist you are to imply all law should be abolished since "You cannot force people to do something against their will"

Where did I say that law should be abolished? The law is already written that democratically ruled nations have freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and bodily autonomy. But we saw with the recent pandemic that all of that went out the window......see how free we really are? It’s an illusion. The enforcers are empowered to take away all your liberties if they want to. They can create circumstances that will justify this denial of liberty....”for the good of all”......or so it is made to appear. There is a deceiver at work....and who does he use to promote his deceptions? MSM.
"Freedom of religion" is what I explained above regarding a restriction against a State Sponsor of a denomination. The "separation of church and State" IS the propagandist rewrite. Now that MAGA is back in power, a return to greatness is at hand. As Trump said, "make America religious again."

There is a mountain of evidence of the re-write and the importance America's leaders always placed on the citizens understanding the Bible. While I'd be happy to provide it, I know it will fall on deaf ears.
I’ll leave that there as your personal declaration as to whom you are dedicated....I don’t think you have any idea what a product of propaganda the whole political system is in this world. Pick a nation who doesn’t use it. (1 John 5:19)

No one can “make America great again”, unless you go backwards about 70 years to when people were not so well educated or informed....a time when propaganda came via TV sit coms and the daily NEWS....and people believed whatever came via their TV screens.....now we have smaller screens but the propaganda never stopped.....it’s just more sophisticated these days.....are you still falling for it?

God is going to make the world great again.....I’ll wait for that promise to be fulfilled....the one who made it doesn’t lie....and actually has the power and desire to do what he promises.

“Train a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

(Proverbs 22:6, NET)

What might that look like when a state employee teaches the Bible to children?

”We cannot continue to send our children to Caesar for their education and be surprised when they come home as Romans.” - Voddie Baucham

***

Will it look different in the United States than it does in some other country? Should it?

Wise advice....the potential for abuse is ever lurking when you give power to short sighted people who can run amok with it....
There is a reason for the old saying....”Power corrupts....and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.

It’s the reason why God never gave rulership of the human race to humans. We are designed to be ruled by the one who made us.
It’s the reason why God didn’t want Israel to have a King like the other nations....he tried to warn them of the downside but they were determined to be like everyone else.

If only all the people who caused the greatest problems in this world had just listened to God and obeyed him whether they liked it or not.....:ummm: :doldrums:hmmx1: Imagine.....?

“More than 500 Bibles have been purchased for use in Advanced Placement (AP) Government classrooms across the state of Oklahoma.

The move marks the first purchase of Bibles specifically intended for use as an ‘academic and literary resource’ in U.S. public schools and is a key part of a broader initiative aimed at providing Bibles to every classroom in Oklahoma according to State Superintendent Ryan Walters.

The Bible purchase, which will be distributed specifically to AP Government classrooms, is part of a push to purchase 55,000 King James Version Bibles with the United States Pledge of Allegiance, the U.S. Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights included. …”

Does anyone have any concerns about this?

No concerns.

Would be okay with toddler (introductory) bibles and student (learning how to learn) bibles for the younger children as well.

I worked as an environmental engineer for the state for over thirty years. Nothing ever went wrong that government wasn’t fully capable of making worse. Government service is a mixture of good and evil. My hands were tied so many times by politicians that my wrists still hurt eight years after retiring.

It happens in the classrooms of government schools. Mark my words: It will happen in classrooms where the Bible is taught.

I think it is great that Bibles are going to be distributed in schools. I hope however that you aren't relying on theologically university trained teachers to explain the Bible to students. We have enough nonsense being taught here. Goodness knows what the result will be with the level of education in colleges and universities today.
I would rather simply encourage students to read it for themselves and discuss with one another what the meaning is, allowing the holy Spirit and the word itself to explain itself.

Children teaching children the Bible -> Classroom brawl videos ought to be epic.

No matter how the public schools address the question of who will be teaching the Bible to children, it will be fraught with difficulties.

Get your point…

I don’t think “religion” is necessary to be ‘part of a pubic schools” curriculum….

But have no issue with Bibles, Books About our form of Government and such being available in class rooms as options for kids to look through, read….when they have finished assignments and others haven’t….or “free time” type thing.

Agree….ultimate education is parents responsibility….however, modernly….”back in the day”….12 yr olds were wiser, than some 30+yr olds today.

God bless you.

When I was in School, they didn't "teach" the bible, the teachers lived it. We had after school bible clubs that teachers guided our studies. It was a part of life, growing up.

This is a God-given responsibility going way back, (Deut 6:6-7) but in the later times when religion became somewhat of a boring chore to sit through sermons week after week, telling their flocks things that they didn’t really want to hear, church attendance began to fall as people realised that lightning didn’t come down from heaven if they didn’t go to church every Sunday.....or even every second Sunday.....or even any Sunday at all. They could send their kids to Sunday School without ever attending church themselves and their work was done for them.....did they know what these Sunday School teachers were telling their kids? Did they care? Not really as long as they were getting some religion into them. I was one of those kids.

We see a fast moving trend towards home schooling now, because of this awful environment in all schools even the high priced private ones.....but those who have to work several jobs to earn a living are not home to “school” their kids....so can we leave them in the care of people we do not know, and whose beliefs we may not agree with, teaching our children about God?They are under the influence of others for the bulk of their waking hours? We get them mostly when they are asleep. The school environment is like a jungle, full of predators and bullies....yet we have no alternative to protect our children from these ‘predators’.

My grandchildren were home schooled for this reason but only because I was there to oversee their schoolwork whilst their single mother worked......and I could take them out on excisions to the zoo and places of historical interest. Our nature studies were done in the back yard. And life lessons were learned at home in a caring environment, not influenced by ‘worldly’ kids who stayed immature and influenced by their equally immature peers, until they left school.

The school system is damaging to our children, teaching them no practical skills and filling their heads with unimportant things and not allowing them to grow up in a balanced way. Having said that, parents will usually produce children in their own mould. There are exceptions but not often....

Former government civil servant here. I completely understand the politics of it. Alot of people quit because they could not handle the pressure. Only the people that could handle the pressure well stayed long enough to retire.

Hi, BL!

Hope you and yours are doing well.

I don't know what concerns me more:

The backlash from the left that will surely result from state-purchased Bibles in public school classrooms;

Or the kooky doctrine that is bound to be taught from them by state/church-educated teachers

These pendulum swings between opposite political spectrums in the US just keep getting wider and wider.

It's making me very uncomfortable.

Both sides believe they have the cause of right on their side and, frankly, both are now playing the postmodern philosophy, "oppressed vs the oppressors" game.

The right wing really turned up the heat on that in this election cycle with their emphasis on claiming that illegal immigration and transgender ideology are existential threats to the country. The left has been doing this victim-playing for nearly 2 decades now.

And then, of course we have the recently intensified, maniacal, political "scorched earth" policy, ballistic missile brinkmanship of the Biden administration in Ukraine, with Putin firing back empty hypersonic at an attempt to save face temporarily while he waits for Donald "Barabbas" Trump to bring Kyiv back into line with the "civilized" world.

The kings of North and South AKA the Sadducees and Pharisees are preparing to enter the Glorious Land.

Sorry for the cynical, off-topic diversion.

Well, considering what they're teaching our kids now, can't be any worse
That depends on what you mean by “worse”? Does something have to be worse to be rejected as unacceptable?....it’s all bad...the education systems in most Western countries is slanted towards finding the geniuses and encouraging them into fields so that they can used for the benefit of their governments. They are after the brightest minds, for their own ends....and will pay them well.

Those who are not in that class are left to fall through the cracks which nowadays are gaping chasms. There are the blue collar workers earning enough to keep their heads above water in labor intensive jobs usually, but many families are now welfare dependent for generations and do not expect to work at all. They were born with their hands out and expect to stay that way....

Both of my homeschooled grandchildren have their own home maintenance businesses and are earning their own way. Both are only in their early twenties, and not afraid of hard work.

Children learn what they live, not necessarily what they are taught. Good examples at home cannot be underestimated....sadly, bad examples usually produce more of the same in an endless cycle....

Printed in China???????

That wouldn’t be very Yankee Doodle.

[“Assembled in China with parts made in the USA“ might be palatable in these hard economic times. Any nagging concerns about the use of slave labor could perhaps be dealt with as a segue into teaching the Book of Exodus.]

From my “For you” feed on X / Twitter this morning.

”I’m an atheist, but I promote Bible literacy and belief in God at my Catholic school all the time.

Why?

Because that’s what the parents are paying me to do. And because it’s foundational to the mission of the school. And because, Bible literacy in particular, it’s essential to understanding my subject matter, which is English.”

(James A. Furey, teacher.)

Well Jane, here in America, we have a thing called "no child left behind," which mean, no matter how dumb a child is, the teachers are going to promote them. When I was in school, you got left behind to repeat the grade if you couldn't pass the subject.

The school systems are so woke that they promote LGBTQ plus agendas. If your son believes he's a female, guess what? When he gets to school he can dress up like a girl and tell the teachers and students and his name is not Samuel but Samantha. Before he leaves school to go home, he changes back to Sam. The school is not obligated to inform the parents of their child's mental status. In fact, certain schools have co-ed bathrooms.

They also invite drag queens to read books to our children. That's just the tip of the iceberg here.

So if they want to teach the Bible, at least they'll learn the Bible. It isn't teaching theology, it's teaching the Bible. Now you may say "well, that's my job as a parent to teach my child about religion," it's also your job as a parent to teach your child morale and sex education, but guess what? The schools do that now, and they're teaching our children that boys can be girls and girls can be boys, and there's NOTHING you can do about it, except pull your child out and home-school them if you can afford to.

I
