John 15:9-12
9 ‘As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: love each other as I have loved you.
I read this passage the other morning after I had prayed for God to show me something new. Of course it isn't new as I have read it many times but what was new is the way a couple of verses just stood out.
‘As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you' which tells us that Jesus loves us with the same love his father has for him. That was the first 'wow'. The passage then goes on to tell us, 'My command is this: love each other as I have loved you.' which tells us we are to love each other as God the Father loves Jesus the Son and just as Jesus love us. That was the second 'wow'.
A very big ask which we can only be capable of if we are indwelled by the Holy Spirit and allow him to give us that Godly love for each other.
