When we see a murderer, a rapist, or a mobster, our first reaction is to be disgusted by what these people did. It is natural. God created us with conscience, and it seemed that these people have no conscience or they would not be doing what they did. Our knowledge of what good and evil is made us despised these people who seemed delighted in only doing evil and not good. We think they deserve to go to jails and even to go the electric chairs!

What we often forget is that while our own sins may seem small in our eyes, they are large and big in God's eyes. We may think we are good people, but we are sinners, too, in God's eyes, just like the murderer, rapist, mobster we despise.

"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." 1 John 1:8 ESV

Before we know God or receive Jesus into our lives, we are just as hopeless as the mobster, rapist or murderer we despise. Yet, God does not think we deserve to go to eternal jail, hell but deserve to be blessed with Him in our eternal home, heaven. God gives us a second chance. Jesus died on the cross and paid the penalty for our sins. God did not give us what we deserve.

So, it is important that we do not look with disdain at the murderer, rapist or mobster but we look at them with compassion, instead. We also ought not to give to them what we think they deserve--jail or electric chair but our compassions.

"Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor." Proverbs 14:21 ESV

God loves these hopeless scums we despise. God do not want them to perish without knowing Him. If they repent and receive Jesus into their lives, even they can be saved. They can turn from a life of crime and live a righteous and blessed life, just like us.

"Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:

though your sins are like scarlet,

they shall be as white as snow;

though they are red like crimson,

they shall become like wool." Isaiah 1:18 ESV

Let us care for these rapists, murderers and mobsters like the way God wants us to. Let us look at them not at what they currently are, hopeless scums but see them the way God does--- His beloved sons and daughters, who Jesus came down to die for.

"For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." Luke 19:10 ESV

No sin is too great in God's eyes. Every murderer, rapist and mobster needs to know Jesus. Let us not judge them for their sins, but pray fervently for their salvations, instead. Let us not think we are more righteous than them, but remember that we are sinners like they are, until God saved us.

"Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?" Matthew 7: 3 ESV

We need to look at these prodigal sons and daughters from a different perspective, not as scums that deserve to be judged for their sins but as precious human beings, made in God's image, who deserve to be reconciled with God!

We need to love the murderer, rapist and mobster!

Love is one thing…it is NOT the gushy Romantic IN Love feeling…
Love is simply DOING what is right toward another.

Murders, thieves, etc. ARE destructive intrusive behaviors and LOVING them does not DISMISS their behavior.
HATE…? absolutely….which HATE is not the opposite of LOVE….HATE is a strong dislike.

Glory to God,

Some people need to be chastised by God and his followers before they can decide which life they desire to live. I know there are some miserable lives that people live committing acts that go against God's commandments. Hopefully they eventually confess their sins, are baptized and blessed with the Holy Ghost thru confirmation of priests, and receive the bread and wine of the new covenant.

God can turn peoples hearts back towards loving him and mankind and that Good that God has to offer us. The fruits of the Holy Spirit are here:

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

It is a troubling matter that we may find that evil loves evil perhaps and good loves good. God directs who he takes into his flock, they love him and is good ways and rewards of the Father, Son Jesus the Christ and the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Cheers!

@happypuppetgal …..“Love” is probably the most misunderstood and misused word in the English language…..what we call “love” songs is really about something not even mentioned in the Christian Scriptures. There are other more important words translated as “love”.

The Christian Scriptures mainly employ different expressions that are translated as “love”, but they have different meanings. Forms of the words “a·gaʹpe”, “phi·liʹa”, and “stor·geʹ” (“eʹros”, love between the sexes, or romantic love is missing).

”Phi·liʹa” as we might understand is “brotherly love”, affection felt for close friends and spiritual brothers and sisters.

”Stor·geʹ” is the love of close family, mothers and fathers to children and children to parents and siblings or other close relatives…

“A·gaʹpe“ however, appears more frequently than the other terms. This is a love based on principle…..not a love that engenders strong feelings of affection or personal attachment. It is this “love” that can be demonstrated towards even our enemies as Jesus said in Matt 5:43-44…it simply means that no matter what, we will not hate them or consider doing harm to them.

We are all sinners for whom God has given his son in sacrifice so that our sins can be forgiven…..no matter what or how despicable the sin is, nothing is unforgivable if a person repents. We have the biblical example of Manasseh to show us the magnitude of God’s capacity to forgive. (2 Kings 21:2-9-16; 2 Chron 33:12-13)

Good reminder my friend .
So lets see what is love and what is hate .
You shall not hate your neighbor in your heart , you shall in any way correct him and not allow sin upon him .
LOVE would and does correct .
repeat that with me . LOVE does and would cover a multitude of sins .
What did james say . He who restores , aka corrected his erring brethren and he is converted back
has saved a soul from death and has covered a multitude of sins . LOVE CORRECTS .
love does not lie and offer up false hope , love corrects .
For GOD who is LOVE always warned to repent . Whom HE loves he will chasten .
Its time the church learns this . Love will not lie . It will not lie .
Love rejoices in TRUTH , not inquity .
remember this the next time we see sins being covered up in churches , as none correct
and as leaders holler judge not to those who do correct . REMEMBER THIS .
Remember this the next time one comes smiling and appears to be loving
and yet through his version of love , HE MAKES THE PATH TO GOD VERY BROAD as it accepts other religoins as IS
REMEMBER THIS . cause that is a lie . ITS JESUS WHO SAVES , NOT FALSE RELIGIONS .
We better keep this in mind cause i see a false love all over the place these days . and that love will LIE
it wont correct and it will attack those who speak TRUTH and would correct .

For more info please read what i just wrote . you seem correct my friend .
too many are under the influence of a love that has come OF THE WORLD and not the LOVE OF GOD .
that love will overlook sins and call certain sins good and etc .
Their version of love will holler judge not , it will hold up even the wrong rainbow
IT will claim to be tolerant and loving to all .
ONLY watch this next scenario .
Visualize this my dear friend .
Walk into some of the most so called we love and tolerate all churches .
You will see some even no longer correcting certain sins , even calling them no longer sin but even love .
You will see they seem to be loving and so tolerant of all sins .
BUT guess what they aint too tolerant towards . GUESS who .
OPEN the BIBLE and READ GODS own words to them , YOU WONT SEE LOVE and TOLERANCE coming back from them .
Have you ever got the feeling that satan himself can appear as an angel of light
and that he and his ministirs can even say GOD is love and YET the version of love they bring SURE DONT
HONOR GOD or HIS WORDS at all . And it sure dont want to hug anyone who brings them reminders either .

Yet many seem to think we can have the love of the world and of GOD .
No sir .
The two are contrary . one is of the flesh and the lusts of the flesh , the pride of life and lust of the eyes .
The truth is we cannot have both the love of the world and the LOVE of GOD .
ITs one or the other . But many sure seem to think they have the LOVE of GOD
and yet upon very simple examination their version of love sure dont REJOICE IN TRUTH .
Charity REJOICES IN THE TRUTH . not sins , not lies , not inquity . But their love sure does .
And their love wont correct their brethern either .
SO now a word .
YE shall not HATE your neighbor in your heart , you shall CORRECT him and NOT allow SIN upon him .

Rapists, murderers, and thieves are sinners destined to meet Gods judgement at the end of their days. Unless he calls them into repentance.

That of course is God's job,not ours.

Meanwhile, such evil as that which slaughters people, rapes,or steals, are of their father the devil. Are we to love the devil?

Too many worldly ideas attempt to corrupt the actual words of God. It's a shame if the people of God buy into the teachings of Satan.

Love evil-doers.
No. Quite simply,no.

Thank you for your post.

As others have put it so well, Love (Thy Neighbor) takes some analysis to understand. Matthew 25: 35,36 is a good place to start.

Without going into details: if one of these people, trying to escape police, arrive at your door needing food, water, shelter, clothing, healthcare, the. we are called to do our best to help them, without endangering ourselves in the process, before notifying the authorities.

Moreover, if we are engaged in prison ministry, one and all are welcome to a gospel session, as we do our best to turn each toward God.

If we are directly or indirectly harmed by one of them, we called to forgive them: no holding a grudge, bearing no ill will, letting go any hate or animosity.

Did I miss anything in the way of engagements?

Blessings.

Would you love and hide a mass murderer who seeks refuge after breaking into your family home?

Rapists, murderers, and thieves are sinners destined to meet Gods judgement at the end of their days. Unless he calls them into repentance.
You are correct…without repentance, there can be no forgiveness.….but the repentance has to come from the heart of an individual….God will not “draw” unrepentant ones to the teachings of his son. (John 6:44; 65) He knows the difference between genuine repentance and that which is fleeting.
That of course is God's job,not ours.
God’s job is not to judge people…he has assigned that role to his son.

John 5:22-23…
”For the Father judges no one at all, but he has entrusted all the judging to the Son, 23 so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.”

We are all, at this point in time, awaiting the manifestation of our appointed judge, who has been “separating the sheep from the goats”, giving everyone an opportunity to repent…..but we already know that the majority will not repent, preferring to travel the easy road, which is a dead end….. and will therefore not inherit everlasting life. (Matt 7:13-14)
Meanwhile, such evil as that which slaughters people, rapes,or steals, are of their father the devil. Are we to love the devil?
This is a good point, but I would go a little further as Jesus said we are to “love our enemies”…..so, when our nations go to war, isn’t there “slaughter” and destruction of property, killing even innocent women and children? Who then are our enemies as opposed to who are the enemies of our nations? Am I fighting for God or for my nation’s pride?
Patriotism and Christianity are two opposing loyalties…..one demands the exclusion of the other…..there is no compatibility.

Are “we to love the devil” who rules this world and who creates the world’s conflicts? (1 John 5:19)
How can you ‘love your enemies’ with bombs, tanks, or nuclear missiles?

How much more heinous does warfare have to become before we realize who is running this show and we are playing right into his hands by adopting a patriotic spirit, ready to justify any action that appears to thwart a perceived enemy……we are actually supporting a world where there is only lying propaganda, and no “good guys”…..there are only murderers who want to “steal” something that doesn’t belong to them? And the lives they are prepared to sacrifice for their own selfish ends, are not their own.

What if Christians are on opposing sides such as in the Second World War or the war between Russia and Ukraine?…..whose side is God on when we are told to be “NO part of the world”? (John 18:36)

Too many worldly ideas attempt to corrupt the actual words of God. It's a shame if the people of God buy into the teachings of Satan.
I agree, but most do not see who is the puppet master pulling ALL the strings…..getting Christians to have blood on their hands? (Isaiah 1:15) God does not sanction the bloodshed of the nations, who fight over ungodly things and who profit from war in ungodly ways.
Love evil-doers.
No. Quite simply,no.
If God does not love incorrigible evil-doers, then neither are we obligated to do so…..but we are also not at liberty to judge them, as everyone has the same capacity to repent if their heart is good.
God hates the sin, not necessarily the sinner.
If Manasseh can repent…then anyone can.
We can “love” (“a·gaʹpe”) them without feeling affection for them….not allowing ourselves to hate them, although we hate the sins they commit.

Thank you for your response.

We are called to help all people, regardless of their standing with God, and if we can do so safely, as in the present case, we should.

The question of what to do in the event of a home break-in poses many complications, which have been dealt with exhaustively in this forum. Does one resist or turn the other cheek? Does one try to cooperate and minimize the damage, or does one opt for a quick escape?

The answers are deeply personal, and proponents of the many possibilities can be found in many writings over the last 2,000 years.

I’ll leave it to you if you want to dive in!

Blessings.

@happypuppetgal, I'm not sure anybody read your post beyond the clickbait title.

My brother-in-law once introduced me to a man whose calling from God was Prison Ministry. He was a big, tough SOB who had spent a few years in jail himself, so he could relate to (and command respect from) those he was trying to reach. This is a special calling, and admittedly not something I have been equipped to do myself.

Your post was more about our attitude towards the hard-cases of this world, but if God does call you to minister to murderers, rapists, and mobsters, keep your eyes WIDE open. Be grounded in reality. Know who you're dealing with and what they are capable of doing. We are commanded to love the unlovable; we also have an obligation to love our neighbors, and that includes protecting them from murderers, rapists, and mobsters.

There's a reason Jesus told us this:

What we often forget is that while our own sins may seem small in our eyes, they are large and big in God's eyes. We may think we are good people, but we are sinners, too, in God's eyes, just like the murderer, rapist, mobster we despise.

"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." 1 John 1:8 ESV
I few things that come to my mind while reading your post. The above …my perspective is if I see murder, rape, and mobster(behavior?) is wrong …my judging others as such is my acknowledgement those things are indeed wrong and sin. If I then turn around and have hate in my heart towards others…wanting to Tear them down and destroy any growth they have in Christ by my being right and them wrong …or if I steal the word of God planted in others hearts, or if I have mobster like behaviors for example as being Lords over God’s heritage as a judge …then I’m not a doer of the Law but a Judge. More simply put… I think there is also murder and rape and getting another drunk(spiritually) that is just as much a sin as murder and rapist and getting people drunk (physically) where people are tried and go to jail. A Christian can judge a murderer and still not see their own murder in their heart towards others.

Second thought about your post is while it may sound good to love murderers, rapist and mobsters …just an opinion but that can also be a load of crap. this is only an observation, but having love for murders, rapist and mobsters is easily said to be present …until you are the one who was raped, murdered or suffered a mobster. Then it’s personal. If someone raped chooses to forgive their rapist.. not sure someone murdered can do this, but maybe they’re family members, then it becomes real in my opinion where it’s their choice. When, where, if they move on to forgiveness. Standing outside of the traumas or losses and saying how much we love those murderers and rapist and mobsters is (Imo) just a way of postering unless it’s murdered or raped …profoundly affected you. I’ll give an example. I know a man in the community and he is a big time supporter of drug addicted moms who loose their children to their addiction. He will boast all day long over how family reunification and wellness and rebuilding relationships and families are key. But he fails to see his own grandson and his grandsons eight year clean and sober mother. None of it applies in his own backyard. His being completely blind to, in one instance all-talk for his image…in the other everything he claims to stand for flies out the window. Only bring it up because it knocks me off my feet how people can in one breath say things they stand for…but when it’s personal to them they refuse to live by what they claim. It does make me wonder how often I do this too.

"Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:

though your sins are like scarlet,

they shall be as white as snow;

though they are red like crimson,

they shall become like wool." Isaiah 1:18 ESV

I think your perspective as a sinner is typical of someone who is dead in their sins, and as we are told, are therefore unable to understand the things of God.

Those who are reborn in Christ are not sinners. Ever again.

Reminder God loves His creation but still will judge those that reject them and sentence them to hell.

He is love and He is just. We are commanded to hate evil. That there is a time for love and a time for hate.

What nobody has mentioned in the demons most of these guys are possessed by. I worked in a prison ministry. The demons can and will out smart you and know you. Which is why some are in solitary confinement with guards told to never engage in conversation with these criminals. Remember Jesus's parable of the Wheat and tares. The devil has sown some bad seeds around us in this world. Proceed with caution with the criminal mind.
