I am a philosopher. I'll give 2 examples: guns and beauty.

Guns are important.
To Whom? Free citizens. Unarmed people are subjects.
For What? The final defense against tyranny.

Beauty. Poets claimed beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Science found this is untrue. Across all species, there was greater attraction based on a single criteria: symmetry. The greater the symmetry, the healthier the genes.
To Whom? Those looking to mate.
For What? Produce healthy offspring.
Regarding the OP, I'm still not sure of the thesis beyond being pedantic. Hence, my questions.
Ah. So that's why you gave no examples...
OK

Guns.
We're not free anymore...hence the desire to ban them completely.
The final defense against tyranny....
Right.
But it's tyranny that the powers that be desire...
guns get in the way.

Also, isn't it interesting that criminals will always have access to guns...
but the innocent folk will not.

Tyranny comes also in the form of ciminality, would you agree?
It's oppressive to the masses if practiced,,,even though it's not the government.

Beauty.
Agreed.
I had read an article on how beauty proves there's a God...
but it escapes my mind totally.
(only Academics seem able to remember everything they come across).

The epistemological approach works here to. "We need to ban guns"
For Whom? For tyrants
For What? To more easily take control in implementing totalitarian policies without so much resistance.
Of course, they mask it "for the children" or other such appeals to emotion but there it is.

How about:
For our own good?

Every freedom taken away
is
for our own good.

The frog in the pan in cold water on the small flame.

Great point! I’m having an epic conversation in another thread with a feminist about the evils of feminism. So seduced by a utopian ideal, she cannot accept that the best human system will still not be perfect.

It is a practical, reality based world view.

The same with freedom. Free countries have their problems too; they are simply preferable to the problems of totalitarian regimes.

The Utopian ideal has escaped us.
Here's what it looked like:
Men went to work to make a living for their family...did the best they could.
Women stayed home and took care of the house and children...did the best she could.
Children were well taken care of and followed and taught....they were RAISED.
Men earned enough to support a family because they were the only wage earner.

NOW....
women are liberated.
But from what?

They must also work because, after joining the job market, the man's pay scale was reduced.
Why give a man a raise? The wife was working too!

The house still requires a lot of work...
the woman let's it go or kills herself trying to keep it nice for her family.
Men are supposed to help around the house now.
50-50
You're a philosopher, does 50-50 exist in ANYTHING that is shared?
No.
Men come home to disorder and have to pitch in to help.
BOTH parents are burned out most of the time.
Children aren't RAISED anymore...
they just grow up.
Raised by the pre schools and/or whoever or whatever else.
But not by their parents.
Anyway, the parents are too tired to really do a good job.

Does all this sound judgemental?
Well, maybe it is.
I liked it better before.
Some women don't even KNOW the before but have eaten up the lie that they're better off now.
Seems like some might understand the truth - but not enough of them to make any change that would ameliorate the situation.
