My daughter was naturally born profoundly deaf (bone & nerve issue one ear…total nerve issue other ear)…
She has over several years time beem fitted with different aids for one ear….giving her aid to hear sound but not particularly definition.
She worked very hard daily (for 10 yrs) since her toddler days, when her deafness was discovered…learning to talk like a hearing person, learning to lip read, learning to read and command of the English grammar, and typing and signing as communication optional skills.
She excels in speed reading, speed typing, signing and lip reading is excellent.
Now a woman, married, with one small child, and advancement in who are candidates for “cochlear implants” she has been taking a battery of tests, and advised she is such a candidate…

It comes with risks, that if it fails, it could also compromise her to have thereafter any sound with a hearing aid, resulting in permanent damage of NO sound.

If it be to your intuition to PRAY FOR HER “SURGEON” HER “PERSONALLY” for a successful outcome for her hearing to become improved….we would be most greatful for your efforts of joining us in our appeal for the Lord God to intervene on her behalf.

Thank you for your consideration…
God bless you.

Glory to God,
Taken

I am amazed at all she has done. Which ear are they doing? The one with the hearing aid or the other ear? I am assuming the one she has the aid already with. I certainly will pray and believe the Lord can guide and direct doctors and will pray for successful outcome that she will have good hearing after this. Will they do both ears?
God bless you and your daughter

Hi Cyd ~
They will be implanting for her left ear only, the one she currently wears an aid. The right ear is too damaged.so no implant for the rt ear. If a success, she will participate in therapy they estimate for about 6 months to help her with adjusting and recognizing sounds. She hoping to learn how to sing, that won’t cause others to cover their ears…so she says! She can play a few songs on the piano…would feel the vibrations, and memorize the keys and pauses. She dances, memorizes songs and watches others for the moves and pauses / beats.
She attended public schools, k-10 & 12. Eleventh grade she chose to go to Gallaudet Deaf School in D.C. There she met other deaf kids from all over the States and other countries…improved her signing and was introduced to deaf culture which she continues going to get togethers with her deaf friends around the States…some are special events, plays, movies, geared for the deaf. Those were all bonuses for her…She wanted to be a Cheerleader, and couldn’t in a hearing school…and she made the squad at Gallaudet…
Her speech and lip reading is remarkable, to which I give her all the credit for her constant years of practicing…and she is a LOL person always cheerful and comedic.

Thank you so much for your concern and prayers!

God bless you,
Taken

I am totally praying for your daughter and that all who are involved in her care find favor with her and perform their medical duties properly. And, that The Lord will put His healing touch on her to give her full hearing.

Praying for your daughter. Blessings and Peace!

Thank you so much everyone….
She has had her “pre shots”….takes the edge off any apprehensions or fears…a little loopy, and on way to surgery.

She supposed to be sent home later afternoon…her only child, son, first day of K today…knows mommy at Dr but not quite sure what that entirely means. From what I’ve researched the bandaging can be a bit of a scary unexpected sight wound about the whole head. Perhaps not too scary…when she was 2, her 4yr old sister and 6 year old brother completely wound toilet paper around her head, face, arms, trunk, legs and presented her to me….All laughing.

Thank you all so much for your prayers…

God bless you all,

Her surgery went well…she will be going home soon…Bandages small located over the ear section. Obviously had minimal hair shaving….Shaving her whole head would have been no issue for her….she has done that 3 times before in solidarity with a cousin and couple of friends having cancer treatments …. Will get more expectation information this evening.

So much appreciate your prayers and caring thoughts..

God bless you all.

Debp- I can image you rolling your eyes…at my fuddy duddy electronics incompetence….but that’s okay…I can laugh at myself…lol
Not at all.

If you are not doing a YouTube video, then you should click on the "attach files" in the lower left of your post (while you are composing it). I think that should bring up some files with your photos. Then you can select a photo and it will go into your post.

Hi - I Live over 1,000 miles from daughter. Not sure how far hospital was from their home…Long day for her and her family. Husband had a group text updating, going for her “deaf group close girlfriends from high school they all still stay in touch”. They left hospital and arranged to stay at a near by hotel so daughter and husband could sleep before driving home, and in case any issue arose, would still be close to hospital.

Told husband I would try tomorrow to text with her if she was able…she said no no, tonight…ya okay..didn’t count on that, and didn’t happen.

From the jist so far, they tested the electrodes during surgery and said the connection was good. But supposedly will be some 3 weeks or so, before her brain will recognize the “connection”. Then 6 months + of therapy for her to identify sounds she has never heard… and seems the sounds begin somewhat distorted robotic of sorts, and takes awhile for her brain to adjust ?? It strange to me, how a hearing person can analyze exactly what infliction and tones and sounds actually “sounds like” to a deaf person..??
With her one hearing aid, she always described what she heard as murmuring noise, some high, some soft, without clarity trying to guess what to picture association with a “thing” making the noice.
When she was little… on a couple of occasions, she would DO something a particular Way. I would ask her WHY she did what she did..”that way”.
In all seriousness she once replied…
“Cuz, my brain made me do it!”
And another time..
“Cuz, my hands just did it!”
Amusing…yet brutally honest from her point of view….and probably is the same POV for any youngster hearing or not not knowing how to formulate the answer to WHY they do what they do, and blank stare when asked.

Thanks for your prayers and concern. We are all bodily created, formed, by the hand of God, and made according to His Purpose that we may serve Him in specific ways….and HOW is the journey we discover during our life-time.. Whatever is the outcome from this surgery…I trust to believe it is for service unto the Lord according to His Will.

God Bless you and yours.

Hi debp -
What i find strange regarding “hair color”…
Daughter was very blond…
Young elementary friend had cancer…blond hair, fell out from cancer treatment, grew back dark brown.
Daughter as a teen, cut bangs, put a brown dye on hair out of curiosity…then went back to her natural blond.
Shaving off all hair, multiple times as young adult, and now her natural hair is dark brown…
Curiously strange to me….

God bless you…

An old friend of mine had leukemia and after his chemo hair loss, it came back straight instead of his naturally very curly hair.
