so i was talking to a guy and he mentioned some awful situation, he lately decided to repent- he told me he had sent a demon to torture that guys soul in hell- naturally, anything with demons, as a christian is very bad to me, but he insisted that demons can also work for god- or rather be spiritually compelled to do bad- to bad people... is it so? to me, it seems strange that demons will work against evil people and not benefit them as they serve the devil- and the devil is opposite of god.
can demons work for god?

Absolutely unchristian activity. Demons will use every opportunity provided by sin to cause harm. Sending demons to do evil to bad people are basically curses.
Jesus said to bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
And in Romans 12:14 it says:
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

@Zeth4500 a word of caution. Commanding demons is literally what witches and warlocks do.
Webster’s 1828 Dictionary defines sorcery as: “SOR’CERY, noun, Magic; enchantment; witchcraft; divination be the assistance of evil spirits, or the power of commanding evil spirits” (1). Historically, the word sorcery along the word sorcerer has similar origins
Then according to Revelation 21:8
"But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
If your friend still does this, and has not repented, I warn you to break ties immediately.

You cannot send a demon to torture someone's soul in hell. If they are already in Hell. They are already being tortured...If they have not died yet, they are not in hell...There is only one case in the whole bible where God used a lying spirit in the mouth of 400 false prophets of Baal because Ahab although warned many times, would not repent or listen to God so he had determined to destroy him...and you are right.

yes i understand he had just recently repented and its possible with his cursed and desperate life he had used evil spirits to get his way
i can however understand his entrance to wanting to use the purest evil as it was a family member of his that just got a lifelong scar, and probably most of their life ruined

Just to answer your direction question, I don't believe so. If anything, they work for Satan. But can God use demons and fallen angels for a greater good? I think so. God allowed Satan to attack Job to prove a point. It's not that Satan was working for God per se, but God can used his own evil desires to acomplish His will.
That side is not known for peace and harmony. I suspect there are different factions with their own personal agendas and desires.
