My wife and I saw this episode in the movie theater and again last night. Powerfully delivered. The actor who plays the Pharisee who hates Jesus did an outstanding job. In his pronouncement, I reflect in this thread.
The Chosen does such a good job of bringing the Scriptures to life on a human level. Masses of people where congregated to get a glimpse of the Nazarene. They hoped to hear him preach and perform a sign.
Their assemblying made the Romans nervous a revolt was brewing.
The Pharisees issued an edict. Anyone who claims Jesus is the Christ is banished. Wow! I cannot imagine a church today holding so much power that they can dare to challenge their flock to leave. Yet, today is it that different? If we evangelize at the malls, places of business, parks and other places people gather, will we be treated:
A. Warmly and crowds asking us to explain more?
B. Told to cease and desist or leave?
What weight do you suppose the threat of banishment held to those 1st century Judeans? Their eagerness to hear Jesus lead to a riot in The Chosen episode. Did anyone else see it?
