Torment is to be created for ONE (and only one) purpose, and to revolt against your creator and forever be condemned to a meaningless existence because you were created to be an eternal being. Torment is to finally understand how great is the love that God had and how great was the price that the Son paid ... and to hate THEM for it. Torment is an eternity of growing in despair and resolute defiance at a GOD that you will not worship and cannot approach to harm.
No, sir, it is not Jesus that torments them ... it is their own rejection of Jesus that torments them.
“There is no one righteous, not even one;
there is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.”
“Their throats are open graves;
their tongues practice deceit.”
“The poison of vipers is on their lips.”
“Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
“Their feet are swift to shed blood;
ruin and misery mark their ways,
and the way of peace they do not know.”
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
-Romans 3
God did not inflict this on them in life, they chose it for themselves.
What suggests that they changed their settled opposition in death?
