An undefended faith is not worth having IMO....But do we believe that God knows who belongs to him? (2 Timothy 2:19)
Do we also realize that he will not correct those who, of their own free will, choose to believe convenient lies, rather than an inconvenient truth?
Only at the judgment will the “sheep and the goats” become clearly identified.....the sheep will be humbly giving thanks, whilst the goats will be busy offering their excuses.
Matthew 7:21-23....
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” (ESV)
It is not we who determine what is truth.....and a receptive heart will accommodate even what seems wrong to the majority, because it is God “making (the seed of truth) grow”, regardless of who planted or watered it. There is one truth...not many versions of it, so if we are determined to hold on to what is not truth, God will let us entertain whatever “delusion” appeals to us. He will not make our decisions for us. Our choices will tell him everything he needs to know about us.
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12....
“The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
(ESV)
How do we know that what WE believe is not a delusion? The truth is we don’t. But since Jesus said....
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. . . . . “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father.” (John 6:44; 65 ESV)....we can be sure that only those who love the truth rather than the delusion of their choice, will be granted entry into God’s Kingdom by the only one who is not fooled by outward appearances.
It is clear that the ones practicing "lawlessness" have no idea that they are doing anything wrong.....their "Christianity" seem right in their eyes. But there is only one "right" way to worship the God and Father of Jesus Christ.
What we do here is exchange ideas about what we believe, and see whether they hold up under scrutiny.....could be that the ones yelling “heresy” the loudest, are the most deluded...? Confidence is no guarantee that our way of worship is correct. But since it is God who chooses us.....who are we going to offer our excuses to?
