Revisiting the ten virgins
Something that stood out this morning is “they all slept”. I’ve never noticed that before with Ephesians 5:14 Wherefore he says, Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

It never occurred to me before that the virgins were dead … that they “all slept”
It never occurred in connection to if they were all asleep …they were all dead…the significance of “awake you that sleep, arise from the dead…”. This kind of changes (Imo) in connection with some awake unto the resurrection of Life, and some to the resurrection of damnation.

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection Life, and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: My judgement is just; because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father which has sent Me. If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

“…as I hear, I judge: My judgement is just;” the words of Christ in the above reminds me of
2 Corinthians 5:10-15 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. [11] Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God (the ministry of reconciliation?); and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. [12] For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. [13] For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause. For the love of Christ constrains us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not hereforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

then were all dead

Matthew 25:5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

And that he died for all, that they which live
should not hereforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

Ephesians 5:13-18 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light for whatsoever does make manifest is light. [14] Wherefore he saith, Awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. [15] See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, [16] Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. [17] Wherefore be you not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

The Parable is about the Second Coming of Christ in Judgement. The oil is symbolic for the Holy Spirit. Five virgins did not have the Holy Spirit. Since the theme of Matthew is
regarded as a message to the Jewish Christians, it is understandable that unbelieving Jews who have not received Christ or the Spirit think they are prepared for the Messiah (the five foolish virgins). But they aren't. They say Lord, Lord, bla, bla, bla, but Christ says away from me I do not know you. That means He never had a relationship with them.
The sleep and slumber is just people not being ready, prepared, not looking His coming anytime soon so they fall sleep ( not paying attention). This is not about being dead physically; but those five virgins were dead spiritually.

ok. So how do five have oil as you said is symbolic for the Holy Spirit …if they all ten are spiritually dead? Are you suggesting those who have the Holy Spirit are spiritually dead…because they all ten slumbered and slept? Oh…you make a good point.

Oh…you make a good point.

1 Thessalonians 4:12-15 That you may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that you may have lack of nothing. [13] But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that you sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. [14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. [15] For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

see, though, before I forget ten virgins
All slumbered and slept
There was a cry at midnight
The “bridegroom comes”, even so Lord come!
They awake…what do we suggest always about the ten virgins
Five awoke and they had their Light …going in to meet the bridegroom.
five awoke and had no light but instead their lamps had went out. (Thinking of were He said “I will remove your lamps before me.”)
How is that not suggestive of:
some awaken and come forth unto the resurrection unto Life.
And they that done evil awaken unto the resurrection of damnation. Is this not what we suggest in they awaken and have no light? And go away …where? ‘Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. [46] And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. Matthew 25:45-46

these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal
…what do we go on about “the ten virgins”? Five where? The other five where?

I love this emoji. So often that is exactly how I feel while reading the word. I’ve been sitting in my car picking up my grandchildren from school, and during the wait in the line of cars…reading a passage it will cause me to quickly have to look away …like that emoji “what was that?” Should I reach out and try to capture it, or should I let it pass on by? Maybe pretend I never saw itno reply

the emoji just came up recently, I thought it was a new option given to the forums emoji’s. At the top bar above the post…does yours say “Angie’s smilies”?

You said “you mean literally? It is parable, right?” Similar to Lazarus and the rich man?

the big question regarding the ten virgins …one of those no reply is… ‘Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.’ Matthew 25:43-45 I keep asking or squabbling maybe: why didn’t they share their light? (Contradiction “We are a Light set on a hill” …””This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine” My husband brought up this morning that the Apostles did?

mmm…interesting…
I don’t know if it matters though…
Whether you’re alive on earth and slumbering/coasting or dead when He comes again, I don’t think it matters. The dead in Him will rise first and then those living who are in Him will join them in the air to meet Him.
Whether you’re dead or alive at the time is not what’s important (to me) but rather if you have oil in your lamp or not.

It's commonly proposed that the five unwise girls were stupid for not
bringing along enough oil for their light sources. That may be true, but I
rather feel that their stupidity was scarcely related to the oil and mostly
related to abandoning their posts.

Had they stuck to their guns (so to speak) they could've joined the
procession along with everyone else. They may have endured a measure of
chagrin for letting their light sources go out, but at least they wouldn't miss
the party.

In other words; they let something relatively trivial distract their attention
from something far more important; sort of like Nero concerning himself
with trifles while Rome is on fire all 'round the city.

Matt 25:10-12 . . While they were on their way to buy the oil, the
bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the
wedding banquet. And the door was shut. Later the others also came. Sir!
Sir! --they said-- Open the door for us! But he replied: I tell you the truth, I
don't know you.

I suspect the bridegroom was unfamiliar with all ten of those girls: even the
five who held their ground. The thing is; while the entrance was open, the
general public was welcome to come on in and join the celebration, but once
the door was shut and festivities commenced, late arrivals were permitted
inside only if they were the bridegroom's friends; which emphasizes that the
invitation, though generous, offered a narrow window of opportunity which if
missed, was lost forever.

Matt 25:13 . .Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour
in which the Son of Man is coming.

Well; five of the girls left off watching and it's readily seen where that got
them

“alive and remain”

John 7:17-18 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. [18] He that speaks of himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

That stands out to me when considering the parables …the outcome is usually I’m good, they are rotten. I succeeded, they failed. I got the oil, they do not. I am over there with Lazarus, those are over there with the rich man in torment. Point is…the parables can honestly be some major hot air inflated into a ego trip of what we are and what they are not. Just thinking…that is why if the parable cause me to go on a parade of always speaking of myself…it might not be true doctrineno reply

But everyone fell asleep.
The 10 virgins are symbolic of the church.
So church membership wont save you.
All have lamps--the Bible.
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Ps 119:105
Some need oil--the Holy Spirit.
"Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah." I Sam 16:13

They had knowledge but one needs both the Word and the Spirit.
They could not be given anothers oil--the spirit cannot be bought.

but it can be given? Or shared? Because if it can’t be shared than what is the point “sharing the Gospel”?
God gives us not a spirit of fear again unto bondage, but a Spirit of love, of power, and of a sound mind.

1 Corinthians 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

It is better to give than to receive?

i have pop ups top and bottom too. Just started today. Maybe they approved of it. I’ve never seen them ask for donations here so maybe the ads are to raise money to keep the site going?

You have connected two different passages to arrive at a false conclusion. The virgins were NOT dead. They were simply sleeping. That could be an allusion to the majority of Christians today not expecting the imminent return of Christ for His Bride at the Rapture. So they are sleeping metaphorically. As you can see on this forum, there are many who reject the Pre-Tribulation Resurrection/Rapture.
