When making a point like; "we need to search the scriptures dailey." Even though that is scriptural in terminology, it can become a law to you. How does that work in believers? It works by the deep root of the law in me. We all have the deep root of the law working in us. Just making a point, that making points can become law to us.

Searching the scriptures, as a obsession can become a problem for a person. Or over reacting to taking everything in the Bible literally can even occur.

I personally believe taking time today even and reading the scripture is useful. It’s there to help you continue in faith and hope and reassure you that even through trials God is with you.

Scripture searching is used to find truth, hope, and to establish the foundation of Jesus Christ and everything that he stands for, which is the truth. For he is the truth, the way, and the life.

The Bereans were commended for their daily search of the scriptures to test what they were told.

11Now the Bereans were more noble-minded than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if these teachings were true." Acts 17:11

Some read the scriptures out of obligation. Some do it out of eagerness to learn about God. What kind of soil the word lands in is the important matter, whether it is sown there daily, or not.

Reading the scriptures is essential to the Christian. I don't think a Christian can survive without it.

After the foundational principles of salvation in Christ are established the word becomes a guide to how to please him in daily living.

Maybe she is, you could be right Ferris. That would seem to hinder someone if they aren’t technically taught the proper way by going and seeing how Jesus modeled prayer. That because of him we can pray, and ask things pertains to the Holy Spirit to help us as we walking the flesh.

We consider any baby who does not eat to be not healthy and in danger of dying.

I've heard countless preaches and read books on the 'correct' way to pray - using the right formula. All this teaching did was to take my mind off God as I tried to pray in the 'right' way. Trying to remember what had been said and wondering it I was doing it right really inhibited my prayer life. It became more like prayer by numbers instead of spontaneous and Spirit led.

I can't tell you how many times the Lord has been faithful to give illumination and revelation from the word when I purposely just sat down and read the Bible because I knew that's what I should do, and not because I wanted to. 'Law' isn't all bad, you know. It helps keep hard headed mules like myself in line when needed. It's just not the ideal way to stay in line.

Yep.
I don't know if I was told this, or just kind of learned it as I went along, but praying is talking to God just like you would talk to a friend or family member. My children never had to come to me in a prescribed and rigid and authorized way to ask anything of me or to tell me anything, other than to be honest and polite. And it was never a bother to me for them to do that...even if it was a bother, if you know what I mean. Still true to this very day. My kids, and my pets, have taught me loads about God.

Though true, I have found this to tread on the dangerous ground of rote prayer that Pearl was talking about. Yes, it's good to pray the word back to God, but according to the principles of the word, not the legalistic wording of the scriptures. It ends up being like an incantation. I remember observing this in the church when I was a new Christian. I guess that was God teaching me the truths of heartfelt, and therefore, effective prayer, and avoiding legalistic prayer.

Even though 'rules' of prayer are useful, I found that whenever I pray I just look at what's on my heart and I speak it to God as I would to any human being. I've also found the more fervent, perhaps even urgent it is, the more satisfaction I receive that God has heard my prayer and, therefore, will respond to it according to his wisdom, compassion, and will. God is good this way. Make your requests known to God. Make that a 'rule' of prayer. You won't be disappointed. He is faithful to the prayers of his people. Even if he doesn't answer the way you want him to.
