I do not live in sin.
Think about this: There has to be a difference between the two people John describes in 1 John 3:7-10...
"7Little children,d let no one deceive you: The one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as Christ is righteous.e 8The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the very start. This is why the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil.9Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10By this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother."
And we know John is not saying the person who practices righteousness is perfect. So we have to ask ourselves, "what's the difference between these two 'sinning' people John is describing? One is saved, the other is not." For some reason the church can not see what distinguishes the saved sinning person from the unsaved sinning person. The difference is the unsaved person
lives in his sin as a matter of unrepentant disobedience, just like the saved person did before they were saved. John said this is how you can tell a born again person from a not born again person. It's a matter of mindset. The born again person has his mind set on righteousness, and so he walks in righteousness but may struggle with sin. The not born again person has his mind set on unrighteousness, and so he walks in unrighteousness and his struggle is with righteousness. Don't you remember this from before you were born again?
