continuing on from the title... but I still find it difficult to tell others about the storyline of how Jesus died on the cross for our sins. I mean, it could be because I was born in a non-violent and protective country where most people are against violence but perhaps if I was in some other country where there is war and lots of violence and really evil I would be more comfortable and it would seem more realistic to believe this so I do believe but I'm afraid others don't believe this. Can you all help me with this by saying things on this topic? Thanks! I want to be able to share my faith effectively.

Yes, I went through this because though I was raised Christian in the US, my family was somewhat oriented towards liberalism. We believed most everybody was basically good on the inside, and were largely evil only out of disappointment with how others treated them. I believed my own country was basically good, and exemplified a "city set on a hill."

However, when I saw my own failures and shortcomings, I set my course more fully and consistently on Jesus. The result was people were turned off by my commitment and viewed me as "judgmental." Following the narrow path others were turned off by the spiritual essence in my orientation towards Christ and towards goodness.

So now, as I live a more godly life it becomes easier to detect who is open to Christ and who is not. I simply reject witnessing to those who are disinterested, who basically hate Christ. I'm not necessarily giving up on them, but I do shake the dust off my feet in a place where Christ is ridiculed and mocked.

So you don't have to have an ungodly, violent environment to explain to people why Jesus was crucified. They just hate him because they want to go their own way and don't wish to accept any need to submit to his leadership.

Go ahead and preach Christ as the one rejected of men, but accepted by those who need him and want him, who express an interest in finding in him righteousness and eternal life.

Thanks Randy! Your post helped a lot. Maybe other people can have a say on this too. I still always talked about it but now I can say it better. I think I also answered my question of why I felt it was harder for me to say this based on my upbringing but I can't think like that so it's good I made this thread. :)

You can only give away what you've got, not what you haven't.

Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

My thoughts are that we are not all evangelists required to pass on the gospel to many people. But there will be those times when people ask about our beliefs or we get into a conversation with a person who shares stuff with us where we can sow the seeds for God to water and cultivate. In my experience if we come on too strongly people will back off.

As a new Christian I was telling everybody in my family as well as people on the bus but so far none of my family have been born again.

1 Peter 3:15
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

That's encouraging to hear, that though we may speak and say things in an understandable way to others, there are still those people, even nice people, who are closed-minded towards a God. I wonder how anyone can not see that there's a God. I wonder what they're thinking. I'm going to ask more about it to see if I can understand anything about their blindness. Thank you for your input but as I understand or recall, we are required to share our faith and I choose opportunities to do this when it comes up.
