In the news we find that some scientists used extracted DNA to breed wolf pups resembling the extinct dire wolf. Surprise: there has been a lot of controversy about what has been accomplished and its purpose.

For millennia, People working in animal husbandry have improved the characteristic of various farm animals to make them more valuable as a food source or as a working beast. There has also been breeding simply to bring about pets with special characteristics.

Although the North American bison was nearly wiped out by thoughtless hunters, there are a few herds of pure-bred bison on ranches, thanks to dedicated conservationists, but there are also crossbreeds in much larger herds (faux bison?).

God gave us stewardship of the Earth and its creatures, but have some people violated God’s intent? At what point does genetic engineering of animals become unethical, even cruel?

Blessings

I don't view bringing back an animal from the dead as cruel, although it is unusual.
These Dire wolves are gray wolves and 99.95% of their DNA are the exact same.
It only takes a little bit of DNA to make big changes between animals.

God gave to man the rulership; to have dominion over the whole earth, which Satan stole or lied about having the dominion, and was restored in Christ to be under His rule and dominion.

5 [d]Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.
7 Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”

8 And Jesus answered and said to him, [e]“Get behind Me, Satan! [f]For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

Men will individually give account to God for everything they did in the flesh.

Genesis 1:26
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Given what they call "The Law of Unintended Consequences", I think it's a very poor idea. They don't know what will happen, these are not natural animals, and they only have the smallest understanding of how genetics work together.

Much love!

Where was this done? I don't believe anything since Dolly the sheep.
Here is one of many links, but of course it might well be a hoax.

Peace.

I find these kind of things intriguing, yet I know it can go to some very dark places if left unchecked, and probably will.

I don't think it's a hoax. They do have some Dire Wolf genes, but they are not pure Dire Wolves. There just isn't a perfect enough sample around for that to happen. They're more like Gray Wolf\Dire Wolf hybrids.
