This Week's Prayer Guide
December 22 - This week, we pray for Christians in Xiamen as they seek to love their cities well. Pray for the churches in Xiamen to be a “city on a hill,” salt and light to their communities around them.
December 23 - A pastor in Xiamen says, “Pray for this city. Pray that the church will not covet the superficiality of the city, but remember the blessings that the missionaries have given to the city in every way.”
December 24 - On this Christmas Eve, pray for churches in Xiamen that have had to change locations because of pressure and persecution. “I pray that the Lord will help us return to the Gospel,” says one pastor, “not focusing on the environment, but on the hope and promises He has given us.”
December 25 - This Christmas, a pastor in Xiamen reflects on his fear that all their ministry is shallow: “We're like a vast ocean, but with only a little depth. Or, we’re like a Christmas tree, with lots of beautiful ornaments hung on it, rather than a tree that bears real, life-giving fruit.” Though this is discouraging, praise God for this pastor’s discernment. Pray that the life of the church would not consist of simply “doing things,” but rather a real, rooted transformation that comes from deep relationship with Jesus Christ himself!
December 26 - A pastor in Xiamen says, “We really need prayer for our spiritual growth and godly practice.” Pray for Christians in Xiamen to grow deeply in Christ, and for their lives to reflect this deepening.
December 27 - A pastor in Xiamen says, “My prayer is that when the illusory bubble of this world bursts, the church will be prepared in every way to catch those who fall. I have deep concerns about this. For example, a sister excitedly said that public education is collapsing, and it's as if Christian education will somehow benefit. My response was that it's very possible our Christian education will collapse even faster and sooner than theirs. Statements like this sister's are very common here. But the church doesn't have the capacity; the church itself isn't even a qualified spiritual political body.” Pray that God will continue to build his church in Xiamen, that they would be ready to catch unbelievers when they fall.
December 28 - A pastor in Xiamen says, “Pray for Christians in house churches. Pray that they won’t waste the opportunity of persecution, but actively repent in the midst of persecution, and actively carry the cross for evangelism.”
