2 Corinthians 5 discusses God preparing a new body for humans and an eternal home in heaven, which is a theme that is similar to a prophecy in the Old Testament:

  • Genesis 12:3
"I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you".

  • 2 Corinthians 5
"For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands".
In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul discusses how God has prepared humans for a new life in heaven by giving them the Holy Spirit as a guarantee. Paul also discusses how Christians should aim to please God whether they are in their earthly bodies or away from them.

2 Corinthians 5:17 is a well-known passage in Paul's letters to Corinth that says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come". The verse means that when someone is in Christ, they have become a new creation based on Christ's saving work. This new creation includes: New thinking, New desires, New tastes and treasures, and Responding and reacting in new ways.

The verse also means that the old has passed away, and the old version of a Christian is not recoverable.

Bible Gateway passage: Isaiah 65:17-25, Revelation 21:1-5 - King James Version

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and...

Could I humbly suggest that the translation of Genesis 12:3 gives the wrong impression. Below is the Interlinear for Genesis 12:2-14: -

Please note that the translation of H:0127 which has a meaning of "Soil" as shown in this Strong's word meaning: -

We should note that the KJV does not refer to "soil" at all and it gives the

My paraphrasing of Gen 2:7 reads this way: -

Genesis 2:7: - And the Lord God formed man from the dust of His fertile soil and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

So that if we look at how Genesis 12:3 should be paraphrased then I would suggest that it should be understood this way: -

Genesis 12:3: - I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And through you all the families inhabiting my fertile soil shall be blessed."

Not every person who has lived upon the earth will be blessed. Only those who inhabit/take root in God's fertile field will be bless through Abraham's descendants.

The verse 2 Corinthians 5:17 in my humble opinion should be paraphrased like this:

2 Corinthians 5:17: - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a renewed creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become refreshed like new.

As far as the renewed Earth and the Renewed Heavens in Isaiah 65 and Revelation 21, God intends to refurbish the heavens and the earth like new again, like they were before the fall of mankind.
