Jesus can give us victory over sin when we continue in His Word and keep our minds on things above. This is how we walk in the spirit.
I was addicted to pornography. I would look every other day. I heard a simple method to help.
Read 1 John, James, and 1 Peter out loud so you can hear it in your ears. Do this until your addiction breaks.
The truth is Scripture has the power to form Christ in us. And I remeber the moment I went to click on the porn site and realized I don't have to do this. Soon after, I looked once a month...once every two months... then I stopped.
There is such a rush of victory when you begin to get the power over your sin. When you tell those same demons that tempted you and whispered about your shame afterwards that they have to leave now. Christ's light is in your temple. Lust has to leave.
Youll never be the same.
I hate when people act like sin is a foreign concept so I will tell you: sin used to mop the floor up with me. Lust, vanity, and pornography did. And people generally considered me a good person. I wasn't.
Sin felt good to my flesh and it likely always will. I just have something so much better now. The ability to obey the Lord and kick sin to the curb. To help those who need help and not just be consumed with the same sins over and over again.
I'm only just beginning. If we would surrender to the Lord and fear his Word, I am convinced many among us could cast out demons and heal in Jesus' name. To fear God isn't a bad thing. It is the beginning of healing for our toxic enslavement to sin.
The joy of overcoming the filth that you were enslaved to is so much better than being a defeatist and believing its impossible not to sin. This is the victory Jesus promised us. The righteousness of the saints.
You want joy? Like, dance unto the Lord type of joy? Let all the commentaries, devotionals, sermons go. Read the Scriptures out loud as if they are brand new. Let the fear of God's warnings pierce your heart. Then let Him restore your confidence as you gain the power over every sin you thought you'd never be able to conquer.
