Many even Christians dont hold it to be the inspired revelation of God for some parts such as Creation or how man came to be. They hold to the Theory of Evolution or dont believe the Garden of Eden as given. Many think the literal Garden of Eden story did not actually happen. or that it was just symbolic or metaphorical representation. When you read the Bible you have to look and see if the writer intended it to be fiction or actual events. One must look and see if there is any assertion that makes it symbolic such as the prophecies of Daniel or Revelation or the parables that Christ used. This clearly shows that non-literal reading is the most appropriate, but when God creates things such as a new eye or heals a withered hand, to say nothing of raising the dead, this is real and meant to be read as a actual event.

I agree if you believe Genesis is allegory your agreeing man is a product of evolution not a created being. Also without the fall of humanity Jesus has no reason to make the sacrifice of atonement he didn't need to come. But he did come and he did make the sacrifice its what all our hope and faith is in.Did Jesus make the sacrifice for no reason your salvation is in his sacrifice. It must be taken literally or it all falls apart. You can't chop the bible up or it becomes nonsense. How can you have Christianity without Genesis?
