OI understand what you mean. I guess the things I thought of for my own life were very simple.I find this a bit idealistic on one level. This writer says he has been all round the world, so he has travelled, had breaks ect. Has he followed his own advice. Also going away can sometimes give you a into the lives of others and different cultures, also the natural world - this can make you appreciate what you have and the created world. They can actually add flavour to your own life
Also its all good and well telling people to ‘ live where they want ‘ ‘ do what you want to do ‘ but is that reality for many , most people are governed by finances, circumstances, commitments and have a hard life at times. It’s only those with resources to bring about change that can embrace those goals.
The One thing that could apply to all is to find contentment in life so that you don’t feel the need to chase a different reality but can pray and embrace change or a break if it comes.
I am a bit like you Wynona - I love those things as well. In many respects they are the basics of life, a home, provision, nature ect- although I did enjoy going away to Spain this year, where I knew it would be sunny every day - the views were stunning . When I was younger, and married, I did use to get envious of those who had holidays every year , but I think it was covertness ( if I am honest ) It was more of a reminder of what I didn’t have !OI understand what you mean. I guess the things I thought of for my own life were very simple.
I like sunlight, nature, walking, warm tea and coffee, quiet, and uncluttered spaces! To me, that is the sweetness of life to have access to those things and just enjoy them!
I wouldn't mind a vacation. I have a dear friend in Scotland.I am a bit like you Wynona - I love those things as well. I definitely would spend even less on my wedding day if I could. It's one day! The need for this huge expense can really cause some issues. I'm definitely team save that money for honeymoon or bills.I often think about that with big weddings, you know the ones that cost thousands and thousands of pounds / dollars - all for one day, just to be the centre of attention. They spend years saving up for one day and yet in reality you don‘t need the most expensive dress, venue, food ect. Society has fed the lie that it has to be the best and biggest.
Years ago I use to watch a tv show called ‘ Sweet sixteen ‘ - it just showed very spoilt sixteen year olds who felt they were owed something when they reached that age, and the parents went along with it………
Yes I agree, my trip to Spain was with my eldest son, daughter in law and grand daughter- I don’t see them that often - I am retired now, but they work really hard.Life is hectic, everybody is busy, no one has time to be with each other.
A holiday ( vacation for those across the pond ) doesn't have to be exotic, just some p.ace different where everyone can slow down and reconnect with each other.
The other weekend my wife, my daughter and I went for a drive, we walked around a small town, explored the farmers market and the shops, e ding with a meal in another town while driving home.
It was nice just being able to walk and talk with each other.
I find it's the simple things that are enjoyable.
Amen, sister! We can enjoy life without glitz and vacations. If I need a break, I can sit outside in the shaded seating area and watch my chickens, cats, dog, listen to the birds, feel the breeze ....see the sunshine, feel its warmth on my skin on cool days... listen to some worship music or a teaching (inside or while I'm outside). I can even enjoy doing household chores while music is playing ....who needs a vacation when fresh air is right outside your door? :)OI understand what you mean. I guess the things I thought of for my own life were very simple.
