In the history of exchange, the history has no always involved coins or precious earth materials. Which can have a certain value to some people, like fine art. And also there was a tribal exchange of goods. What was the farmers crop worth in exchange to the cattle ranch fine meats. And along came rare materials like gold and silver and were fashioned into coins with emperors faces on them as property and ruling authorities like Israel under Romes protection and rule, all packaged in with tax collectors in a more modern society.
And what about that British term "pounds" was that a gold or silver weight and numeric value assigned to it, before the government controlled and kept the precious materials in government safes like Fort Knox. And then came the promissory paper currency notes issued by the government. And we have already almost arrived at the digital currency age. One can still find gold and silver coins, not just plated to look like gold and silver with relatively cheap metals underneath.
And what about carrying all that weight in gold around, seems heavy and not effective for transport of the common citizen, so it appears intelligent to have our value stored in banks. Where we can access and use that value we have gained from employment to purchase items needed for survival and even enjoyment of life, perhaps both are "wants" and man can decide for himself when they are "needs".
The USA has to maintain it's gold for value among other nations. We as people don't really need gold or silver or other precious materials for life as given under God. But some people think so perhaps.
It was a USA history lesson that taught me about the ridges on gold coins, they used to be smooth around the circumference, but common people back then would shave off some of the gold and keep the shavings until they had enough to melt them down and use them at the local businesses. The government caught onto that problem and started producing them with ridges. That way anyone could tell if the gold coin still weighed let's say a dollars worth of precious metal.
In times of war and times of harsh living, as we as Christians well know, food and water, family and friends are more precious than any rare material or artwork to be found on earth or crafted with the imaginations of artists.
Is the government keeping the rare valued items and guns from the public like gold and other precious earth material and is it even precious? Guns can be an important item to have if a foreign country or some other force attempts to force you to become something other than what God intended.
Sometimes I see people place more value on their homes and other precious possession then their families and friends, with arguments, bickering and even cruel words and actions. Not how God wants us to behave. Proper direction from God regarding those resources is necessary to maintain a dignified and honorable stance under God and among his children.
