A respected teacher of scripture with a u-tube teaching channel believes that Abraham worshipped idols, and he bases his understanding on Joshua 24:2: -

Joshua 24:2: - 2 And Joshua said to all the people, "Thus says the Lord God of Israel: 'Your fathers, including Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods."

Is this holder of a PHD in theology right in his belief that Abraham worshipped idols, before God called Him out of UR to go to an earth that He would show him.

I would like to hear what other people think.

What would be strange about that though?

Your fathers, including Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods

It doesn't say Abram did but his father correct? Even if he did I dont understand how that is significant

After his dad died it says,

Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

Strange gods are shown also with Rachel Jacob here

Gen 31:2 With whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern thou what is thine with me, and take it to thee. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.

Gen 35:2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

I would like to hear what other people think.

In “basic”…my perspective;
I think it was “common”…(Jews and Gentiles) occupying same lands, as neighbors, under a Gentile political governance…to have a mix of “religious” standings to …simply do works and provide for their own.

Abram’s dad’s employment to support his family…making idols…which apparently was a lucrative enterprise to support his family.

No surprise…men today…build, make, manufacture…what the market will bare…and sons often learn and do the same crafts as their dads.

I think the Scripture is not so much indicating…Abram / his dad were worshiping “idols”… but by making and selling…were “contributing” to an “increasing”… and “negative” result for the (Hebrews)……common…

Not much different today… manufacturing “detrimental” so called “games/ entertainment” flooding the younger generation…as common, ok, and many are underlying, wicked and evil.

Just saying…some manufacturers…making a living…may or may not, allow their “own children” to use, have…the very things they manufacture…. And the BUT…the products are everywhere…with children’s friends and influence.

Just saying….seems…Gods agenda …had a bigger intent for Abrams ..”offspring”…than to be influenced by the “Gentiles growing dominance of Political power and Religious and Society Influence.”

Perse’…I see no indication ABRAM WAS worshiping idols.

The …one door closing…to open another concept.

Glory to God,
