One of the strategic principles of the Trump Presidency is to use economic leverage, backed up by military as a last resort. Those in power in other countries cannot sustain their grip without an economic base. Don’t risk American lives for lofty principles.
As far as the ending of the Russia - Ukraine war is concerned, a lot of blood has been shed for what? Billions spent on war materials (and who knows what political skims) for what? At this point, negotiate an end with minimum additional damage to the people of Ukraine. (And bring home all of our political prisoners.)
