Apple Disables Security Feature for UK After Government Demands Backdoor to Spy on Users Worldwide

“All the UK government has achieved is to weaken online security and privacy for UK based users. It was naïve of the UK government to think they could tell a US technology company what to do globally.”

Clip from link .
"Apple is taking the unprecedented step of removing its highest level data security tool from customers in the UK after the government demanded backdoor access to user data worldwide. The demand was called an “unprecedented attack” on privacy by security experts.

BBC News reports that Apple has decided to disable its Advanced Data Protection (ADP) feature for users in the UK. The decision comes on the heels of a demand from the UK government for access to user data stored on Apple’s iCloud service. ADP provides end-to-end encryption, ensuring that only account holders can view their stored photos, documents, and other sensitive information."

Just use your phone for calls, use a stand alone camera, and stop texting about government sensitive issues. They arrest you for quietly praying in your head for goodness sake.

I read on Gab that the UK government has been demanding the names of specific users who have criticized their government (and these users would have went to prison for a year) and Gab just told them to get bent. So I think they might be taking the device route now.

Is there cloudless options out there? I have never had one of those flatscreen type phones, I have always had a flip phone, but I was considering a GrapheneOS phone, "just because" but I you need the internet to update it and I don't want the internet after the end of this year, with the whole microsoft account thing.

That is mind blowing that they do this .

Explain if you will . There are other operating systems , Linux , Unbuntu , etc .
I have a dual boot Linux computer also, there is just a learning curve and I am bored to tears learning the command lines, maybe when I am offline, and I want to get back on bad enough, I will apply myself (then) I gotta book for that option.

We were both on another thread where I was discussing this before, when Microsoft will force users to get a Microsoft account with them when discontinuing Windows 10 upgrades in October of this year wheil forcing Windows 11 users to get a account with them. I heard they will let you have an extended upgrade service for Windows 10 for a small fee but will also with that fee require an account, so I am getting all my online time in now before that occurs because I am offline when I cannot. But I did buy a few computers so I can overextend that time as long as they dont get anything (considering the lack of updates they will not be receiving). So I would just maybe use them for a forum but nothing else.

You could always use a VPN (virtual private network) and hide your presence online. Wireless cafe's use them all the time.

Get your own virus protection software , you don't have to depend on MS .

I used to have a free one (yeah.. I know) and I would buy alot of things if I did not need a subscription, and these VPN's pretty much go that route. And I know you can click something that will remove you from being rebilled again but people have shown that it returns to subscription. Its all just a big pain in my rearend.

Oh and not to mention I had to lose banking online because of one VPN it would not allow me to do anything on my banks website and they couldnt really get things back to normal, so that was actually the first thing to go. If I cannot do online banking with a VPN I just refuse to do it at all. So I don't, I am back to all paper there. I grew up on doing it by paper so its no real big deal for me. Theres just more and more crap to deal with, don't you ever feel that way?

Ofcourse you can use another virus protection on your system but most work more properly on a updated system (is what I am thinking). If things go wrong (its only a matter of when not if) you will be on borrowed time no matter what.

The whole forcing of an account that really ticks me off is coming to the place where you must have one in order to use any computer online with their OS. And not only that, they will no longer allow just using the computer you purchased for offline use either. So its just not worth buying new computers, they are pretty much closing the loops on these things.

Did you hear what they are doing now with Kindle books? Their killing some kindle feature. Louis Rossman (who I often listen to for the latest rip offs shares a little on that). I dont have one but lots of people do, I think they 1 week (Feb 26, 2025 to do something or other with their kindles.

Its part of that owning nothing thing with online books as well.

I have been searching on this for a couple of years but they keep changing things up, similarly as they keep patching the work arounds found on various Youtube videos. I know this because I purchased a new laptop (having asked if I would be able to get online without an account) and was told yes, just use the work arounds, and had 4 work arounds to use it but they were patched before I could use them (and I sent the laptop back).

So right now a search says,

Microsoft requires a Microsoft account to set up a Windows 11 Home computer, but you can bypass this requirement by using the official ISO file from Microsoft to install Windows 11 and creating a local user during the installation process.

And that is just one but it doesnt matter, they keep changing just give it enough time, happened to me with 4 separate work arounds. This was after digging for the work arounds trying them, and various videos which speak of Microsoft patching them, and it just became exhausting, so I have given up (but I will not give in).

I have watched a bunch of videos on the patches, but I havent kept them because I tried them, and am done trying anymore because they will likely not work when I get around to trying them.

Yeah, he rants alot, his whole channel is pretty much dedicated to how much (and how) various companies are ripping the people off and exposing whichever company that is. He puts huge amounts of money where his money where his mouth is and is an advocate for consumers.

I am married to a man who cusses like a sailor, so I can better tune that sort of thing out.

His company would be the company I send my computer to for repairs though.

I use to repair consumer electronics and even 25 years ago the parts were starting to be harder to source , I feel his pain . At one time I had a vcr junk yard you could say , about 50 vcrs that I salvaged parts off of . I would no charge the used parts but at least I could get my labor money , everybody wins sml .

I recall you saying something about repairing electronics, I wish you still did that and lived next door to me, I could keep you employed and I could win too sml

I think he has website somewhere that freely teaches others how to repair your own electronics, if only I had the desire to learn any of that.

I have been creating my own vintage stereos/receivers/and CD players sort of junk yard but buying all the same (working models) so as the parts tanks here and there I can interchange the working parts between them.

Just so that I am not totally in the dark, that would be nice.
