the bible tells us what the number means - it is the number of man. it is an incomplete number, a number that represents the spirit of worldliness. The Bible tells us people will receive the number on their right hand and forehead because it represents slavery - Roman slaves were marked in the same manner. i think consumerism is a good example of 666.

I don't even qualify for a lower level demon position, that is, picture me as a powerless marijuana seed till you smoke it. I have to admit all those unknowingly marked with 666 will be in for an exponential surprise...you and I are trying to find out a little sooner.

"666" is not a product of gematria, that is, Revelation employs symbolical numbers, but none are formed by gematria thus we can eliminate this view.

Rev.11:1, 2 God's people are marked off (sealed) from the ungodly, here, by means of the mark "666," the latter mark themselves off. By simply bowing down to the Antichristian power and authority one receives the invisible mark even unknowingly, however there's a sequence of men that are the Antichrists.

For me, it's representative of six vials (bowls), six trumps, and six seals that are talked about in Revelation, where the antichrist shows up. I realize numerology can be interesting in regards to this number, but I don't see it being anything else outside of also containing a spiritual dimension like Aspen said. Almost any name can be attached to 666 by some reckoning. 10 years ago is was George W. Bush and Osama/Usama. Before that it was Clinton or Bush I.

For me it brings to mind King Solomon and his regular take in gold (the only other place in scripture where the number comes up.) You might notice that the wisdom writings of the apochryapha (if you've read them) tend to contradict Solomon in certain areas of life, and consequently they have become apochryapha. What else has been hidden by the builders?
More significantly, where do we place our trust? Is it truly in God, or is our god Mammonas? In the last chapter of the song of Solomon there is a commentary which has made it into the book where the apocryphal writings have not. It is most significant when you know the meaning of Baal Hamon, which is the Hebrew version of Mammonas.

Could be that people want to identify the antichrist so that Christ will return, as we see in 2nd Thessalonians. I have heard nuts talk about trying to kill the antichrist, but they don't get the idea that scripture tells us what will happen, not what might happen.

By the way. One other individual is called the son of perdition in scripture and this would be Judas Iscariot, the treasurer of the group of disciples, a thief, a liar, and effectively a murderer.

This is interesting to me b/c I believe that 6 seals, trumpets, and thunders will be the work of AntiChrist in bringing false religion, false government, and false economy upon the world. The seals have to do with false Christianity, Islam, atheism, and false Judaism (pale horse) followed by the martyrdom of all converted Christians and then the great earthquake.

As for the trumpets, we have nuclear war (1-3), nuclear winter (4), and then 3 woes in which the demons below the earth are loosed onto the earth, the "angels" in the Euphrates, and the demons of the air are cast down to earth setting the scene for the world conquest and false gov't over the world.

We are not told what the 7 thunders are but we know that, when God is angry, He thunders from heaven!

And the 7th of each of these comes in Rev 16:17-21. Also note that these 3 correspond to the 3 measures of leaven that the woman mixes into the meal with in Mt 13.

I think it is deeper than any of us have any capacity to imagine.

I have become convinced that the "mark" is more sinister than just a stamp or implant. One aspect of it is that anyone who receives it is no longer qualified for salvation. On the surface, it would seem anyone who changed their mind could get a implant or tattoo removed.

But what of genetic manipulation? We are at the threshold of some wild genetic issues. Transhumanism that can alter entire DNA code is being contemplated now. Cross species genetic manipulation is here. There are instances where scientists have combined 23 chromosomes of mice DNA and 23 chromosomes of human DNA and created chimeras that are half mouse and half human. Other species combinations have been done also. And there are those in the field that are claiming that with genetic manipulation, human life spans of hundreds of years and resistance to many diseases is possible. What a way to get people to want such a thing in droves. After all, scripture makes it clear that folks willingly take this mark. The promise of immortality! Wasn't that the lie Satan told Eve in the garden? When you combine this with references where people during the time of God pouring out His wrath upon the earth will seek death but will not be able to die, it gets a little spooky. They will hide in caves and call on the rocks to fall on them so they can die, yet will death will escape their grasp. I have never met anyone who, if they truly wanted to, could not take their own life. But the scripture implies that those folks will not be able to.

If a person has their DNA changed, they are no longer, technically, human. Only humans are eligible for salvation. Once one is altered to no longer be genetically pure, they are no longer human and eligible. That would comply with the verses that say those who take the mark cannot be saved.

And the "mark" of the beast may mean that a genetic manipulation that occurred to him and he requires of everyone is in view. So one would be taking his mark by accepting the same genetic manipulation.

Just another idea or concept to throw in the mix. We probably all have it wrong to one degree or another. I don't really worry about it enough to waste a lot of time thinking about it. I already am sealed unto the day of redemption by the Holy Spirit.
