The Bible does present the Ten Commandments as the covenant itself. In Exodus 34:28, it is written:

"So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments."
"So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone (Deuteronomy 4:13, NKJV)

This clearly states that the Ten Commandments are the covenant. When we look at Jeremiah 31:31-33, we see God speaking of a new covenant, but notice what He says:

"Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord.
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

This passage does not say the law itself would change. Instead, it tells us that the ten commandments that are the covenant instead of being written on stone tablets, would be written in our hearts and minds. That means the law remains the same, but its place changes, from external tablets to internal conviction. This is why we see in the Gospels of John, Matthew, Luke and Mark, Jesus teaching the commandments and magnifying them.

Now, let's connect this with the Ark of the Covenant. In Deuteronomy 10:1-5, God commanded Moses to place the two tablets of the Ten Commandments inside the Ark:

"At that time the Lord said to me, ‘Hew for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and come up to Me on the mountain, and make yourself an ark of wood... Then I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are, just as the Lord commanded me.’"
This shows the special place of the Ten Commandments, inside the Ark, symbolizing their central role in the covenant. But what about the rest of the law? In Deuteronomy 31:24-26, Moses wrote the book of the law and placed it beside the Ark:

"So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this law in a book, when they were finished, that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying: ‘Take this Book of the Law, and put it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there as a witness against you.’”

This distinction is important. The Ten Commandments being described clearly as the Covenant were placed inside the Ark of the Covenant, showing their eternal, unchanging nature as the foundation of the covenant. The rest of the law was placed beside the Ark, acting as a witness.

Now, when Jeremiah speaks of the law being written in our hearts, he is speaking of the same law, the Ten Commandments. The "new" part of the covenant is not that the law changes but that God Himself ensures it is within us, guiding us from within rather than being an external set of rules. This aligns perfectly with how Jesus upheld and fulfilled the law, always pointing back to love for God and neighbor as the foundation of obedience (Matthew 22:36-40).

So, the New Covenant is not about replacing the Ten Commandments but about making them part of who we are.

Blessings

The ten commandments is the old covenant GOD made with the Israelites at Mont Sinai, and which they broke miserably.

Next, not according to the same old covenant again, but a new covenant HE's making with the Israelites.

The old covenant time being acted like a schoolmaster, until God took on flesh and Himself made a new covenant with them.

As according to ten commandments old covenant, all have sinned and fallen short of GOD's Glory.

The rich man told Jesus, he's been obeying that covenant since young.

Therefore Jesus makes a new covenant with him, for a start, to sell everything and follow Him.

Those who follow God Jesus, He disciples them the new covenant beginning from the Sermon on the Mount.

Moses the builder of GOD's house, gave the old covenant to the Israelites from the Mount.

Jesus the owner of GOD's house, gave the new covenant to the Israelites also from the Mount.

GOD's house is referring to the house of Jacob, the Israelites, GOD's lambs and sheep.

When God Jesus first met the Israelites, He said that they are flocks without a shepherd.

Shalom in the name of Jesus Christ.

Actually, there is no "Neo"/"new" covenant.

Christ stated this in Matt 13:52 but we need to know the difference between the Greek Root words, "Neos" and "Kainos."

"Neos" meaning is "new" with respect to age.

"Kainos"
meaning is refreshed, i.e. like new again.

In other words, we have a "refreshed salvation covenant" since it was modified on the Cross, but which has been available from the time of Adam where the process of being redeemed was through the blood of sacrificed animals. Now we are redeemed through the Blood of Christ who died on the cross for all of our collective sins.

Shalom

The biggest difference IMO is enforcement of those laws.

Under the original covenant, the Israelites (especially the Levites) were instructed to enforce the law one against another. The phrase "put the evil away from among you" occurs repeatedly in Deuteronomy, and it's an injunction to administer punishment, often capital punishment.

6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; [but] at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. 7 The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

The covenant written on the heart is not enforced one man against another. In fact, Jesus prohibits doing so:

Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Instead it is enforced upon by a man upon himself. A man regulates his own behavior. It is a matter of conscience.

The new covenant is the New Testament in the Holy Bible, the grace and truth God Jesus brought us.

Hebrews 1:
1. GOD, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the Prophets.
2. Hath in these last days spoken unto us by HIS Son, whom HE hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also HE made the worlds;

1 Corinthians 15:
47. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from Heaven.

John 1:
14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the FATHER) full of grace and truth.

17. For the Law was given by Moses (old covenant), but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ (new covenant).

Matthew 5:
1. And seeing the multitudes, He went up into a mountain: and when He was set, His disciples came unto Him:
2. And He opened His mouth, and taught them, saying,

Luke 22:
20. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament(covenant) in my blood, which is shed for you.

Jeremiah 31:
31. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

What verses are you thinking of?
Galatians 3:

11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.

20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Heb. 8:

6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.

7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.

8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:

9 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.

10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

13 In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.

The law was given to make sin exceeding sinful. As Paul said in Corinthians the commandmensts in stone were a ministry of death--not life.

Heb. 8:6-13

Gal. 3:9-25

2 Cor. 3:7

Rom. 10:4

these are but a few
The verses you mentioned seem to point that Paul said the commandments are no more, no longer necessary, am I correct? the O.P. was about the Covenant being the Ten Commandments

please confirm

Thanks for taking the time to post the verses.

I don't see anything there that contradicts the idea that the 10 commandments WERE the terms of the Old Covenant.

I also don't think the idea of this topic is to retain the Old Covenant. I think the idea here is to say that those 10 commandments figure into the New Covenant, but in a different way than they did in the Old. The "Law written on the Heart" rather than the "Law written on tablets of Stone."

Thoughts?

If the Law is so important, where are the stones on which it is inscribed? Lord Jesus showed the limitations of the Law of Moses during the sermon on the mount. The Law is not the problem. Mankind is the problem. He has no desire to obey the Law. God's actual requirements are far higher. Hebrews calls the Law the shadow. I prefer to live in the light.

Why restrict the Law to 10 commandments? There are 613. The Law also is useless in day to day living. It won't tell you how to love, it only tells you that you must. I died to the Law. Laws do not apply to dead people. No one takes a criminal to court after he has died. Jesus raised me up to new life in Him. I now live by the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ my King. My Bible says that the Law was put in charge of me to lead me to Christ. I came to Christ over 50 years ago. He is my Life and He is my righteousness. I don't need the Law. All it ever did was condemn me and kill me.

@Gideon300
You are supposed to follow Christ not paul. Christ is the only way to eternal life Paul cannot save you.

where are the tables of stone? you think they are not important that they are gone? what does the book of revelations says?

Rev 11:19 Then the temple of God in heaven was opened, and the ark of His covenant appeared in His temple. And there were flashes of lightning, and rumblings, and peals of thunder, and an earthquake, and a great hailstorm.

remember this?""And there were flashes of lightning, and rumblings, and peals of thunder, and an earthquake, and a great hailstorm.""

this shows the LORDs presence as in exodus;
Exo 19:16 On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning. A thick cloud was upon the mountain, and a very loud blast of the ram’s horn went out, so that all the people in the camp trembled.

Exo 20:18 When all the people witnessed the thunder and lightning, the sounding of the ram’s horn, and the mountain enveloped in smoke, they trembled and stood at a distance.

Yes the law is so important it is why God gave it to us the ten commandments ARE the Covenant placed in the Ark of the Covenant.

as for the rest of the law called the Law of Moses;

Besides these ten Commandments, God also gave civil laws and laws for health, cleanliness, and sanitation. Because the people were living in camps in the wilderness with no doctors, no hospitals, and no proper water systems, God gave them practical rules to protect them. In Leviticus 13–15, we find laws about skin diseases, washing after touching a dead body, and how to handle mold or sickness. In Deuteronomy 23:12–14, God commands them to dig a hole outside the camp and cover their waste. These may seem simple, but they were vital for a large community living in close quarters. They helped stop the spread of disease and reminded the people to live clean and orderly lives before God, who said, “For the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp... therefore your camp shall be holy.”

All of these extra laws, were not random or separate. They were deeply connected to the Ten Commandments. The commandments were the root, and the other laws were the branches, showing how to apply God’s covenant in every part of life. God was teaching a people who knew nothing, shaping them into a nation that reflected His holiness, justice, and mercy.

When Jesus came, He confirmed this by saying He did not come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it. In Matthew 5:17–19, He said, “Whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven.” He later said the whole law is built on two great truths: love God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself. These two commands are the heart of the Ten Commandments. They do not replace them—they explain their spirit. And the Law of Moses, in all its details, was given to help God’s people live out these holy values in the real world.
Many of these laws cannot be followed today for obvious reasons such as the sacrificial laws.

Unfortunately Paulinist sometimes forget the most important Commandments: to love God with all your heart. they hang on every word from Paul but Forget Christ's, they only remember the cross but forget most of his teachings. like this one:

John 14:15
New International Version
“If you love me, keep my commands.

New Living Translation
“If you love me, obey my commandments.

English Standard Version
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

Berean Standard Bible
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

Berean Literal Bible
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

King James Bible
If ye love me, keep my commandments.

New King James Version
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.

From the Ten Commandments, there's, Honor thy father and mother.

Matthew 10:
34. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I come not to send peace, but a sword.
35. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
37. He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
38. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me.
39. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it.

Now, is the Ten Commandments applicable for a born again with Christ, when there's variance against those who obey it?

Who's the parent of every true born again of water and of the Spirit?

Matthew 23:
9. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your FATHER, which is in Heaven.
