It won't be a long drawn-out affair. But apparently, we will be witnessing this..
● Rev 21:3-4 . . Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with
them. They will be His people, and God himself will be with them and be
their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more
death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed
away.
Much of the the tears, the mourning, the crying, and the pain will most
certainly be related to the great white throne event depicted at Rev 20:11-
-15, which will likely be a public spectacle.
In other words: people will have to watch as friends, associates, and loved
ones are literally pale with terror, lips trembling, mouths too dry to speak,
shrieking, sobbing, screaming, weeping, yelping, and bellowing like wounded
dogs as their eyes dart about in sheer white-knuckled panic, desperately
looking for someone, anyone, to help them as powerful celestial beings drag
them off to a mode of death akin to a foundry worker falling into a kettle of
molten iron.
The Bible says the lost will be given a fair trial (Jude 1:14-15) which
suggests some of us might be subpoenaed as witnesses for the prosecution
where we will have to testify not for. but instead, against people we know
and love; including our own kin, i.e. moms, dads, grandparents. brothers,
sisters, cousins, nephews and nieces, and quite possibly spouses too.
Paul said the greatest of all gifts is love (1Cor 13:13). But let me tell you
something: Love is inconvenient. Sensitive folk cannot sit through a scene
like the one described above and not be moved by it. The effect will be so
overwhelming that nothing less than the power of God will suffice to get
them over it.

Mathew 25 describes it, as does the great judgement at the end, where the old creation is swept away, right before the New Heavens and Earth appear, with the books being opened, the wicked are judged by their deeds.
While the righteous are not judged worthy of the second death due to their faith. We overcome the world by our faith in Christ who saves us from our sins.
Then the righteous enter into the kingdom created for them, with the wicked departing from God and the righteous into eternal punishment. They will be forcefully separated from God and us, as described by being cast alive into the lake of fire by the angels, we don't do that.

Matthew 25
31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the [c]holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: 42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
44 “Then they also will answer [d]Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
