I've come across various people who have ended up with mistaken ideas after watching The Chosen.

One person I know thought that Peter had ongoing tax issues with Rome. Scripture makes mention of Peter paying taxes, and no mention of him not.

Another person I know that that Nicodemas tried and failed to cast 7 demons out of Mary Magdeline. No, nothing in the Bible about that.

Another thought that the Samaritan leper regrew his missing fingers, while the other 9 did not. Scripture says all were cleansed, and adds nothing more than that.

One of the episodes I happened to see a small portion of portrayed the wedding in Cana as Jesus turns the water into wine, after His mother talks Him into it, after the show Thomas to be doubtful. There is all this back and forth, Leave the room, and Jesus dips His hand into the water become wine, letting it spill through His fingers.

John 2:5-9 KJV
5) His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6) And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
7) Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
8) And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
9) When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,

These stories sit in people's minds, affecting what they think the Bible says.

A little leaven leavens the whole lump. And The Chosen demonstrates this truth.

I've not watched much of this show at all, only to get a sense of what it is. It's fiction couched in Biblical frames, and poisons the mind. Do you think God is pleased when people tell lies about His Son, and the things He did?

Are there other scenes in this series that are unbiblical? What are they?

Much love!

A dramatisation that only showed what was in the Bible would be pretty thin, and not very satisfying to watch.

So yes - you should expect a lot of "unbiblical" material in a series like The Chosen (far too many scenes to list!), and if that's a problem for you, don't watch it.

However, the programmes point viewers towards the Bible and encourage them to read the Gospels for themselves.

A lot of the drama is "fiction", but it serves a purpose in demonstrating the culture and the attitudes of people at the time. So after watching it, you will be much better informed about the situation of lepers, the unfairness of the divorce laws (biased against women), and the menacing presence of Rome everywhere. So these programmes can increase the understanding of those who know the Bible as well as misleading those who don't.

I beg to differ with you. Here is one of my favorite movies:

No leaven, just Bible.

Those not open to God's Spirit will inevitable misunderstand, malign and attempt to pressure folk into their narrow view.

My sister, she wouldn't watch any movies at all about Jesus, choosing instead that her understanding of Jesus come straight from the Bible, Bible only.

It really is a narrow way, how best do we stay on that way?

Much love!

You have mentioned some issues that could be attributed to artistic license taken from what is not written in scripture. Each episode is sort of like a semon, teaching something practical and specific. I just wish they wouldn't contradict scripture for the sake of this narrative to make it interesting. But they directly contradicted scripture before, making the narrative impossible. I find it annoying.

For me, the changes either remove something or add something from the original narrative, changing the overall message. What concerns me is that people, at least some, are tending to accept the changed message seeing it portrayed vividly on screen.

I've read research that shows video is stored in memory the very same way as is sight/sound, and that blending happens, meaning that video can have the same sway in your mind as things you actually see and hear.

The research was in relation to pornography, and how it affects a person's perceptions and attitudes of others. Objectifying others, depraving the sexual impulse, these were directly attributed to watching porn. So in researching the process of this happening, they learned this is just how the brain works.

So someone watches The Chosen, with it's deep and thoughtful storylines, it's well portrayed scenes, well written, well acted, and presenting a false view of Jesus and His disciples, it's leaven, working it's way through the whole lump.

Much love!

If a little yeast leavening the lump applies to disputable matters and not just false doctrine or sin, then everyone on earth who has heard a sermon, or read the bible interpreting it for themselves, or was taught by their parents are already affected by a kind of leaven.

I stopped watching the Chosen after one episode that claimed Matthew was Jesus's speech writer and another that showed Jesus in a tent and people coming to him to be healed, like a doctor visit. This was at the feeding of 5000.

Let's bring it down to tin tacks. What do you perceive the 'mission' of Jesus to ultimately be? I don't mean the side benefits we derive from it, I mean it's ultimate purpose?

What do you think Dallas Jenkins' goal is? What is he doing? His dad did the same thing, introduced changes to the Bible story, even to the point of portraying someone being forgiven for receiving the mark of the beast, the mark disappearing.

Do you know the saying, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree"?

I don't think you've heard the question.
