I wouldn't say that God demanded a sacrifice. Jesus willingly gave his life as a sacrifice. The purpose of the sacrifice was to demonstrate God's righteousness.I'm trying to point out that things aren't always as simple as we make them out to be. Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins. Wonderful. But how did dying on the cross save us from our sins?
Someone might answer, "Because God demanded a sacrifice." Okay, then why did a sacrifice satisfy God?
My birthday is Monday. I'd be more likely to have a burger and fries, except I'm struggling to keep my weight down.
Jesus lived a life without sin and was murdered by the political and religious authorities of his day. Capital punishment against a sinless man, highly esteemed by God, was the greatest example of evil possible. God demonstrated his righteousness in that he raised Jesus from the dead, placing him at the head of all authorities and the church, and he judged those who killed him.
This pleased God and appealed his wrath against mankind. God was reconciling the world to himself through the cross. In light of this situation, God has decided to save those who are willing to admit that they should have been on the cross instead of Jesus. God is saving all those who are willing to admit their guilt and accept Jesus as both Lord and Savior.
More could be said, but let me keep this short.
Happy Birthday.
